Commercial Description:
This is an incredibly intriguing ale is made by aging our Old Heathen Imperial Stout in oak barrels that were used for making fine Kentucky bourbon! The result is an extraordinary, dark, and mysterious stout whose very essence has been enhanced. The aroma is filled with vanilla, cocoa, and roasted coffee beans. This silky-smooth brew has notes of oak, whiskey, roasted barley and vanilla that meld together on the tongue to create an incredible sensation. Heresy is released in February.

Poured jet black, with a dark head that lasted at least 15 minutes. Dark chocolate, some anis, Vanilla aftertaste. Not overpowering at all, what I like about this one is the flavor is great, but I’m not hit over the head right away, a well balanced, warming, good flavored brew. Thanks to Sprinkle for this gem!

22 oz. bomber bottle, no bottling date, sampled in a snifter glass. Poured a deep blackish brown with a frothy tan head that settled into a rich creamy lacing, small amount of ringed sticking. An impressive start to this evening’s sampling. A light smoky wood first emerges in the aroma, then dark cherries, malty chocolate and light coffee, vanilla and sherry-like alcohol. Traces of green wood as it warms. Smooth pleasant taste, not overly woody, the alcohol flavor is more like sherry than whiskey, I don’t really taste any bourbon. Not a bad thing, I don’t mind barreled sherry. Dark cherries, dark caramelized sugar and vanilla meddled together nicely. Not richness maltiness I’ve had in a RIS, but still far above average, dry chocolate, light brown coffee, some smoky touches towards the end. A distinct taste of wood comes out at the finish along with a soft spiciness. Creamy airy medium bodied mouthfeel makes this a dangerous sipper. Not an outstanding RIS, but still a very good one.

near black pour with a quickly disappearing reddish light brown head. milk chocolate and light cocoa powder dominate over the smoky charcoal aromas. big alcohol slap in the face.it has a woody chocolate flavor with some vanilla and coffee characteristics. pleasant dry finish. medium bodied with moderate carbonation. bourbon aged flavor kills the beer and hides its potential.

Bottle (22 oz.) Unleashed at cellar temperature and Heresy let loose a lively head that was several fingers high. Aromas were fairly weak for an Imp. Stout... chocolate is dominant and there is a hint of peat, smoke and bourbon. Flavor holds all of the above with a lovely silky mouthfeel and a touch of vanilla to help smooth things out. Additionlly, the alcohol is not distracting but noticeable as it warms a bit.

Insane imperial stout, thick black appearance, virtually no head but that’s to be expected a bit with this style, alcohol level was very present in both the nose & the flavors, very sweet and nutty nose, very fruity flavors with notes of vanilla & molasses, a little bit of an alcohlic burn was present as the beer seeped down into the stomach, great sipping beer, very enjoyable stout

Bottle Pours a deep black with a large tan head and very thick sheeting lacing. Very nice aroma of dark roastedness, with notes of vanilla, purple grapes, and slight coffe. Flavor was a bit less impressive, not so dark roasty, a bit sweet, slightly sour and dry. Easy on the bittering hops and a fairly thin feel. Moderate carbonation. Thanks to Kramer1781 for this one

Bottle. Pours black with a thick, chocolate colored head. Aroma predominantly of oak. Quite woody! Flavor of more oak, some chocolate, and some roasted malt. Not bad but this is heavily oaked. It was better than I had expected. 7/4/7/4/15 (3.7/5)

Vanilla and chocolate on the nose with hints of coffee, and bitterness. Pours black with a thin tan head. Smooth, milk shake-like, creamy vanilla, coffee (cafe au lait), notes of bittersweet chocolate, a nice notable oakiness, with very light hints at the whiskey. Overall extremely smooth. Very nice.
