theacelatrain (262), Washington DC, USA Jun 8, 2006 Bottle. Pours black hole black, with a medium brown head. Dark, smokey chocolate aroma. Heavy flavors - dark chocolate, burnt coffee, and slight dark fruit, with a strong woody and brandy notes. Smooth, soupy, and a tad tarry - but HEAVY. Delightful.
malrubius (451), USA Sep 29, 2008 22 ounce bottle split in small tulip. Black with lasting flat brown head and lace. Roasted chocolate coffee port bourbon oak aroma. Roasted chocolate with portlike fruity oaky notes and very mild bourbon with fairly clean dry mellow finish. Full body and medium low carbo, excellent soft mouthfeel maybe because I let it warm up. Very good and drinkable, yet still complex enough to satisfy. No alcohol smell or taste. Could use a slightly bigger finish. Probably my favorite Weyerbacher yet. I was not a big fan of Heathen, maybe it needed some bourbon barrel aging. Also, it helps that its fairly fresh, or at least well-handled, a rarity on Long Island. daknole (838), Plantation, Florida, USA Sep 12, 2008 Updated: Sep 17, 2008Very good stout from Weyerbacher. Bottle. Pours a black color with a wispy, small brown head. Aromas are ery chocolatey and full of molasses. I smell some booze as well. Flavor is pretty thick with some good chocolate, coffee and wood characteristics on the tongue. Great beer, but not quite world class. patrick767 (1449), fort wayne, Indiana, USA Sep 7, 2008 bottle - Pours black with a thin tan head. It smells of bourbon and dark roast malt. The flavor is much the same along with a hint of vanilla. The balance is good and it has a full body. This beer is quite tasty though I tend to agree with the view that there’s just something missing to make it a truly great brew. padrefan98 (643), (San Diego) Santee, California, USA Sep 2, 2008 #600 Shared with friends and family on a beautiful Labor Day barbeque at my house. Thanks to dmac for this one. Flavors of wood, some whiskey and lots of malted bitter chocolate. Very good. thornecb (1132), Marblehead, Massachusetts, USA Aug 28, 2008 Pours black into a snifter. Mocha head with medium retention leaves slight lacing as it recedes. Cobwebbed oak and bourbon aromas. Upfront sweet bourbon and a little thin. Becomes more creamy if you swish a little. Oak, vanilla and bourbon in the finish.
