GAManiac (217), Atlanta, Georgia, USA Apr 29, 2008 Updated: Jul 18, 2008 Pours pitch black with a small dense tan head. Decent retention with a bit of lacing. Always enjoy seeing the bubbles continuing to rise in the middle! Big roasted malt aroma with major dark chocolate elements. Also a definite whiff of the boozy wood in there as well as vanilla and dark fruits. Very nice! Nice, smooth chocolate taste with strong roasted malts and a subtle vanilla flavor in the background. Get a slight coffee aftertaste with a faint hop bitterness. Medium to full bodied with a serious creaminess that just coats the mouth completely. I was really impressed with his beer and would rate it as one of the more drinkable RIS’s I’ve had. Complex, rich and creamy with a hint of the wood barrels make this a must-try.
Sparky27 (430), Phoenix, Arizona, USA Jul 14, 2008 Bomber courtesy of GMCC2181. Pours an opaque black with huge 3 finger tan head. Nose is mild oaky bourbon, roasted malt and alcohol. Taste is vanilla, coffee, oak, a touch of booze and a bitter chocolate/hoppy finish. Medium, semi-creamy mouth feel. I enjoyed this one – good IS. Thanks Golly G! MrChopin (119), Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, USA Jul 10, 2008 Black with small beige head. Aroma of strong smoky oat/vanilla component backed by chocolate, roast, and faintly sweet fruits. I like the nose! Flavor is odd and a little watery; it’s composed mainly of sweet malts, dark chocolate, and what is probably the bourbon. IThe palate seems a little weak. Overall though, this is a quality beer. zappafan99 (256), Rock Hill, South Carolina, USA Jul 8, 2008 Taste 7/8. Aroma: Mmmm....chocolate, espresso, whiskey, raisin. Looks: Nice tan foam riding a black opaque body. Taste: Espresso, Nice oak, chocolate. Not overwhelming; quite drinkable for this style. Mild hops in the background. nice body. Very good...will buy again. blipp (599), Grand Island, New York, USA Jul 7, 2008 Bottle. Pours close to black with a tan head. Roasted aroma, with coffee, wood, and sweet chocolate. Medium/full body. Flavor is again roasted malt, but also has a pretty solid hop presence. Notes of burnt wood, coffee, vanilla, and sweet chocolate. Very nice. kennydiaz (33), staten island, New York, USA Jul 7, 2008 HAS A SLIGHTLY SWEET SMELL. THE SMOKED BARREL GIVE IT A TASTE MORE LIKE A FINE RED WINE. IT IS SLIGHTLY CARBONATED WITH A HIGH ALCOHOL CONTENT. NICE ON ON WINDY AUTUMN NIGHT.
