ksurkin (355), Norfolk, Virginia, USA Apr 11, 2008 pours a darker, cloudy, amber with minimal head. aroma is not huge, but pleasant and dominated by citrus, pear, brown sugar, and spicy hops. flavor is pleasant as well, and somewhat unique in the IPA world. the hops are definitely there, but not overpowering or all that long lasting. also some flavors of orange and earthy hops with a heavy malt backbone. certainly not quite as wonderful as the double simcoe, but a very good daily drinker. imadeadguy (378), back in NJ!, New Jersey, USA Apr 9, 2008 Pours light amber/gold with lacy white head. Aromas of pine and citrus. Flavor is resin, pine, and some citrus in the finish. Solid IPA and very drinkable. This one is a few steps below the double simco. pintsize (1042), Austin, Texas, USA Apr 8, 2008 3-16-08 bottle shared with lb4lb thanks to DrJay
Thick orange brown pour with great thick sudsy white head and immediate web like lacing. Smells aged and caramel heavy - not much hops at all. Flavor has hops present - but they aren’t strong or lasting. Bitterness fades quickly. Seems weak for an IPA. Mouthfeel doesn’t really do much for me. Overall, a bit muted in all areas. arrogantb (695), Denver, Colorado, USA Apr 5, 2008

Poured from a 12 oz. bottle (thanks to zrrbrrt) into a pint glass. Interesting label art with a close-up of a hop and some futuristic lettering. Cool. The color is a nice amber-orange with a thick white head that is already leaving some lacing as I type. Nice hoppy, citrus smell but subtle, not overpowering. Taste is very hoppy and not balanced but that doesn’t seem to make a difference to me. The mouthfeel is slightly creamy and pleasant. The aftertaste is a little bitter with hops and hangs around in my mouth a little too long. Drinkability suffers a little from the aftertaste. This is a pretty tasty IPA and a nice surprise. If I could get this in Colorado I would probably drink it on a fairly regular basis. I liked this more than the other IPA’s I’ve had from Pennsylvania (Hop Devil and Hop Wallop). If you are an IPA fan, I recommend getting your hands on this one.
craftbeerdesign (731), Alpharetta, Georgia, USA Mar 30, 2008 bottle. a very nice hoppy IPA... pours a deep golden/amber with little head... nice citrusy hoppy aroma. smooth over the palate with a thick hoppy presence that extends throughout the finish. MattShizzle (385), Bernville, Pennsylvania, USA Mar 24, 2008 Bottle - from sampler pack. Amber color - slightly cloudy, fizzy. Pretty good. Lots of hop bitterness, but not good hop flavor. strangaj (229), West Chester, Ohio, USA Mar 21, 2008 Pretty good, but not quite as nice as the hopslam. Has a nice spice flavor to go with that heavy hops flavor as well as a smooth dry finish. lb4lb (2011), Austin, Texas, USA Mar 16, 2008 bottle courtesy of DrJay
Pours a hazy orange amber with a lasting foamy beige head and leaves nice lacing. Smell is caramelly more so than hoppy. Some fruitiness too. Perhaps the nose is mild b/c it’s old. Taste is fruity and caramelly with more hops in the flavor than the smell. A good bit of metal flavor though as well and muted hops. Moderate bitterness and nice flavor, and if this is not fresh, I can see this being really if it were.
