zug4abby (287), San Diego, California, USA Sep 13, 2006 Bottle from Kramer17801. I love weyerbacher so I was very excited to try this beer! Pours a slightly cloudy, light brown color with a medium thick head and decent amount of lacing. Aroma is very heavy/thick with a nose that almost reminds me of pee. I know that sounds weird, but it’s the best way I can describe it. Fortunately, the flavor didn’t taste like pee... although it was still bizarre. Lots of raisons, hops, bitterness and more hops. Smooth and slightly bubbly and light on the palate. I enjoyed this beer even though I had a hard time with the nose. Not as standout as I usually find Weyerbacher to be but still good! eaglefan538 (2355), Wilmington, Delaware, USA Sep 9, 2006 Worked for me as a nice, but not excellent, example of the style, decent pour, head, and lacing. The aroma was grapefruity and malty. The flavor was citrus and pine hops, light grapefruits, and a fairly sweet but not highly flavored malt (crystal in there?) base. Was surprised to read that this has four times the hops of the basic IPA, as it didn’t overwhelm me at all, in fact I thought it was a tad too sweet. Naven (864), Poway, California, USA Sep 8, 2006 Bottle. Fairly dark beverage that smells very nice. Tastes very hoppy, yet smooth. This beer, as with most of the Weyerbacher products, reminds me of a west coast ale. This weyerbacher brewery is making some good products. calfaro (18), Trujillo Alto, Puerto Rico Sep 7, 2006 Bottled. Pours dark orange amber. Medium sized head. It has a very strong hoppy aroma (duh) with strong citrus notes. Almost smelled like grapefruit to me. The taste is refreshing but the aftertaste is a tad too bitter for my taste.
The head remained present until the last drop and there was tons of lacing. IMO a good choice for ocasional tastings but not an "everyday" drinkable beer. zebracakes (1214), Washington DC, USA Sep 6, 2006 Bottle. Pours orange amber, off white head. Aroma is citrus and floral. Flavor is hops, caramel, citrus, fruity, and floral. DarkMagus (433), San Jose, California, USA Sep 5, 2006 Amber/orange in color with a modest head that left a ring of bubbles on the surface. Sweet, malty, grapefruit-like aroma... obviously predominantly a hoppy. Intense, unique hop flavor balanced by a malty background, citrus (grapefruit, lemon). Nice crisp mouthfeel with a very dry (and bitter) finish. Pretty awesome. BeerCommonSewr (67), North Carolina, USA Sep 4, 2006 12 oz. bottle
Aroma: Nice and hoppy like you want from an IPA with sweet citrus coming through nicely.
Appearance: Slightly murky dark orange which was quite pretty with an excellent rocky foamy head that laced and lingered very well.
Flavor: Lots of hops with a pop of orange peel that gave it nice balance. Quite tasty.
Palate: Finished like it tasted and slightly dry like you would expect with a beer of this high alcohol content.
Overall: A quality IPA that I would be willing to enjoy again and again. UNCCTF (464), Kannapolis, North Carolina, USA Sep 3, 2006 Bottled. Golden with a small white head. The flavor is packed with grapefruit and the hops are out of control - a very good IPA.
