Blithering Idiot Barleywine aged 4.5yrs on American oak, refermented w/ Brett.

Idiot’s drool is Blithering Idiot barrel aged for 4.5 years. A full-bodied, deep burgundy ale with an incredibly complex character. Extended aging has imbued this beer with notes of vanilla, oak, leather and sweet sherry. A mild acidity and subtle carbonation rounds out the palate. 840 bottle brewery only release.

(750ml bottle) very hazy medium brown, few bubbles in a ring around the edge. Nose of rich caramel, honey, light brown sugar, rich and malty. Taste of vinegar, brown sugar, malty, rich, and very lightly tart in a good way. A bit undercarbonated, super interesting beer.

Bottle into a snifter. Pours a flat murky mahogany. No head. Nose is pineapple, booze, sour, salty. Flavor is a mess. Pinapple mixed with sauerkraut and cheap booze. Flat, medium bodied. I wish that there was no Brett in this one. Very bad (but still better than billy the mountain).

Säuerlicher Beginn mit deutlichen Eichennoten. Trockene Malznoten, die Säuerlichkeit wird milder, gleichzeitig aber schärfer. Interessant, süffig, ausgewogen, vollmundig. Gut! 8/12/12/12/9/12

(750ml bottle) Pours a murky amber-brown body with a medium beige head. Aroma of sour cherries, raisins, caramel, leather, vanilla, and toffee. Flavor of caramel, toffee, balsamic, wood, brett, brown sugar, and cherries.

Thanks to yourefragile for sharing this at last night’s tasting. Served in a SAVOR wine glass. Pours nearly flat. Reddish-brown color and a few bubbles after some heavy swirling. The nose is pretty bad, smelling like dirty socks with a bit of vinegar. White-Birch level right here. Very unfortunately. The flavor has light cherry and some vinegar-like sourness. Touch of oak. Medium flat body. Not a fan at all. Not good.

Bottle thanks to GRG1313. Pours with a hazed brown body with a fading tan head. Aromas are buttery, cheese, caramelization, oak, dark currants, wood and a bit sour. Strange. Flavors are of brown sugar, balsamic vinegar, oak and a ton of alcohol. Very low carbonation. Lasting maple and vinous notes. Some acetone. Flavors do not meld well.

The pour is a murky mahogany color with sort of a small off-white head. Wow, what an aroma. Cheese, vinegar, and soy sauce are among the strongest aromas. A bit of liquor and booze, maybe some oak, definitely some oxidation and leather. The flavor is just bad. Worcestershire sauce, soy sauce, bad chocolate, and vinegar. Definitely salty with some almost cauliflower taste. God, what is this? Medium bodied with low carbonation.

pours absolutely still with a couple of soapy bubbles appearing. looks like lake water in my glass. brown and cloudy. Smell begins with a vinous twang, moving on to leather, dank basement, bold old oak, oxidized carmel malts. taste begins with a touch vinous twang then comes a lot of sweet malt with a mellow yet clear oxidation, like a port wine oxidation. then along comes tons of oaky must with a fairly potent vanilla on the finish. There is a combination of acetic and lactic sourness leaning toward the acetic side. just a bit tart not sour. mouthfeel is heavy and viscous that is mouthcoating. just a bubble or two otherwise it’s still. Despite the look and awkward smell, this is an awesome drinking experience. take it for what it is, there aren’t many breweries selling beer aged 4.5 years in oak.

bottle... light caramel, a bit bright, no head... aroma of sour cherries and vomit... taste is horrendous, chemicals, alcohol and cherries... pass
