Säuerlicher Beginn mit deutlichen Eichennoten. Trockene Malznoten, die Säuerlichkeit wird milder, gleichzeitig aber schärfer. Interessant, süffig, ausgewogen, vollmundig. Gut! 8/12/12/12/9/12

The pour is a murky mahogany color with sort of a small off-white head. Wow, what an aroma. Cheese, vinegar, and soy sauce are among the strongest aromas. A bit of liquor and booze, maybe some oak, definitely some oxidation and leather. The flavor is just bad. Worcestershire sauce, soy sauce, bad chocolate, and vinegar. Definitely salty with some almost cauliflower taste. God, what is this? Medium bodied with low carbonation.

750 ml bottle poured a clear reddish brown with a lingering ring of tan foam. Aromas of bourbon, oak, prune, raisin, brown sugar and light maple. Palate was light bodied and smooth with a tart finish. Flavors of bourbon, oak, maple, brown sugar and fruittiness with a smooth tart lingering maple finish.

Brown pour. Not much of a head. Sour maple aroma, rotten fruit, dumpster aromas. Flavor is rotten garbage, sour cabbage, yuck.

Bottle… Admittedly, I don’t know what this beer is all about. Haven’t read anything about it – including the label. Haven’t even heard of it. This happens at tastings at dimly-lit beer bars. Hazy burnt-caramel ale with a red glimmer and negligible head. To me, this smells like a strong, American-style barleywine aged in a red wine barrel. Acidic, tannic notes. Medium to full-bodied and a bit chewy with almost no carbonation. The flavor is a mishmash of elements both sweet and sour – caramel and sour cherries mostly. Tart, Mojave-dry finish. I like this. Seems like I’m the only one at the table who does. OK, finally looking at all the ratings. I guess Dan and I are the only two people on the planet that like this beer. Well, so be it. Different strokes and all that.

750ml bottle. Cloudy brown color with almost no head. Flat body as the pour suggests. Woody, caramel, with some lighter funkiness. Some dark fruits in the tastes as well.

Denver Rare Beer Tasting. Cloudy orange brown appearance with a small cream colored head. Potent oaky, rich malty, caramel, toffee, boozy aroma. Very, very strong taste, slightly tart, super rich caramel, toffee malty flavor. This is rich and boozy as hell.

Bottle thanks to GRG1313. Pours with a hazed brown body with a fading tan head. Aromas are buttery, cheese, caramelization, oak, dark currants, wood and a bit sour. Strange. Flavors are of brown sugar, balsamic vinegar, oak and a ton of alcohol. Very low carbonation. Lasting maple and vinous notes. Some acetone. Flavors do not meld well.

750 mL bottle. Poured murky brown with no head. The aroma picked up sour vinegar, cooking sherry, and medicine.. oak and funky Brett rounded it out.. not at all appealing. The flavor wasn’t any better.. sour fruit skins, vinegar, and berries throughout.. I couldn’t find the barley wine I love in there.. tacky, funky, dry and sour finish. Heavier-bodied and syrupy on the palate with no carbonation.. sour, funky, and very hard to drink.
