Ungstrup (11342), Frederiksberg, Denmark Dec 3, 2006 A hazy amber beer with a light brown head. The aroma has very strong notes of pumpkin, but also cinnamon. The flavor is sweet malty, but again with very strong notes of both pumpkin and cinnamon, leading to a slightly dry and spicy end. A bit overdone for my liking. Papsoe (10254), Frederiksberg, Denmark Dec 4, 2006 (Bottle 65 cl) Clear, dark amber with a small, of-white head. Aroma of cinnamon and cardamom. Medium body with lightly sweet caramel notes and a distinct spicyness with also the cloves showing. Some warming alcohol in the finish. Pure pumpkin pie in a bottle, but actually rather complex and interesting. 011206 Oakes (6966), Miami Beach, Florida, USA Aug 25, 2008 Very autumnal with its golden dark amber colour. Warming, delectable aroma with lots of nutmeg, cinnamon, gourd with caramelly, brown sugary malts. Rich palate is boozy, not like overly alcoholic but with the stylish complexity of a fine spirit. Subtle but confident spicing. Lots of pumpkin in the background. It’s 88 F and I’m feeling like trick or treating. Gotta like a beer that evocative. joergen (6529), Frederiksberg, Denmark Dec 3, 2006 Clear orange coloured with an off white head.
Aroma of caramel, fruits and spices.
Flavour of caramel, fruits and spices. argo0 (6227), Washington DC, USA Oct 11, 2005 (22oz bottle) Clear amber body with off-white head. Aroma is nutmeg, cardemom, cinnamon, some clove, alcohol. Taste is moderately sweet, nutmeg, clove, some cinnamon, alcohol. Watery medium body. Even though the alcohol is not the strongest flavor, it really works against the others, undercutting what otherwise would be a very good beer. The alcohol presence does diminish once the beer warms up, though it never goes away.
