Brewed with Pumpkin and Spices(Cinnamon,Nutmeg,Cardamom,Cloves). This 8.0% ABV pumpkin ale is heartier, spicier, and more caramelly and pumpkiny than its faint brethren! Perfect finisher on a cool autumn night, or match it up with a slice of pumpkin pie and fresh whipped cream. If you don't agree this is the mother of all pumpkin ales, then you just don't like mothers!

From a bottle - pours a brownish orange, slightly hazy with smallish off-white head. Aromas - smells strongly of clove, with hints on nutmeg and cinnamon underneath. There is a bit of caramel and sweetness on the nose as well. Tastes - spice and pumpkin and a bit of alcohol. This is a big beer and has a very full finish.

Bottle: Cloudy, orange-brown, bubbly, with a small off-white head. Very bright, cinnamon/nutmeg/pumpkin aroma. Slightly lactic pumpkin-pie mix, nutmeg, crust flavour. Sweet....lively carbonation. Nice.

Pours a copper color. Aroma is of ginger and cinnamon. Flavor bursts with pumpkin pie flavors. This is one of my favorite styles of beer and this tops them all. Great pumpkin ale.

12 ounce bottle. Chestnut brown color with a foamy beige head. Big cinnamon and clove nose with a sweet toasted malt note. Tangy toasted malt flavor with lots of pumpkin pie spices. Rich and flavorful with full body. Notes of caramel and pecan. Finish is herbal hops and and cardamom.

Pours a deep mahogany/chestnut color into tulip glassware. An inviting autumnal hue and appropriate for the imperial style. This beer has gained traction in the pumpkin ale market and the attention it garners is deserved. Pleasant bouquet that expertly straddles the line between sweet pumpkin pie and seasonal spices. Pumpkin puree essence is well honed and intermixed with cinnamon, clove and nutmeg. Almost has a Grand Marnier-like sugary sweet booziness in the nose as well. Dry mouthfeel with a slightly stinging spiciness complimenting the obvious sweet pumpkin notes. If there are any criticisms, maybe would benefit from less black pepper (or maybe too much cinnamon?) flavors on the spice profile. But probably in my top 3 pumpkin ales (non-stout). I do miss the old label..

12 oz bottle from Premier Gourmet. Pours a cloudy amber brown with modest-sized cream-coloured head. Aroma is quite spicy with nutmeg the most obvious to me and cinnamon also definitely apparent, as well as caramel and pumpkin. Flavour is very spicy with lots of nutmeg and cinnamon, and a little clove, lots of caramel and a bit of pumpkin character. Plus body. Nice.

Okay, I donít like pumpkin beers, so I was prepared to slam this one, so here I sit kind of surprised. Pours with very little head, light orange color, translucent. What an aroma. Donít know much about Cardamom, but the clove, nutmeg and cinnamon are easily picked up from the aroma. I donít get much of the pumpkin, and that is probably good for me. Flavor has a real tangy zing to it and all of the spices funnel into the zingy flavor. Body is pretty thick. Finish is a little disappointing, I expected the spices to linger a little longer.

Finally after sampling pumpkin beers/ales all night I found one that compares to Shipyard Pumpkinhead. The label art made me decide to save this one for last. Pours dark Amber with a tan head. Aromas of pumpkin, spice, and malt with similar flavor. Stronger taste than most of the pumpkin brews and with a higher alcohol content it makes it worth the while. Good brew Iíll have to remember when autumn rolls around.
