3.1 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 5/10 PALATE 2/5 OVERALL 13/20
12 oz bottle courtesy for fata. Thanks. Pours an amber-red color with a small beige head that slowly recedes to a fine film. The aroma is distinct with pumpkin, sweet potato, vanilla and mulling spices. The flavor does not quite live up to the foreshadowing promised in the aroma; the pumpkin, spices and vanilla are all there but they are a bit watered down. The palate is thin and watery, with soft carbonation. The finish is short with some lingering wet cardboard flavor. Overall: Nice nose, but the weak palate makes this fall apart.

Bottle. Pours deeper amber/copper with a small head. Strong spice aroma with cinnamon, clove, nutmeg, caramel. The spices in the flavor are somewhat subdued compared to the aroma. Really drinkable dispite the abv. Nice clean finish and enjoyable overall.

2.9 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 2/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 12/20
Poured into a pint glass. Small head disappears quickly. Good aroma of cloves, nutmeg Taste is heavily influenced by the spices. Good pumpkin taste; the finish is a little tart, apple-like. Alcohol is noticeable. Not my favorite pumpkin but very good.

Pours a cloudy orange-amber color with a smooth, one finger tan head. The nose is full of pungent spice. All spice, raw cinnamon, and sour fruit. Wet, but mildly biting, with some faint astringency at the finish. The dominant flavor is identical to the aroma put off by souring apples lying on the ground under their tree. A bit of tart, sugar free apple pie comes through in the flavor.

Don’t like the dark brown with no head appearance. Slightly spicy aroma. Dull bitter taste.

3.2 AROMA 5/10 APPEARANCE 2/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 2/5 OVERALL 16/20
12oz bottle into a snifter.
Pours a clear, deep ruby with a tiny white head that is quick to disappear. Just a tiny bit of lacing on the sides of the glass.
Lots of spices in the nose; cinnamon, clove, and nutmeg. Almost a little too heavy on the spice as it overwhelms any other characteristic of the beer.
Huge rush of pumpkin pie spice on the taste and it is quite heavy on the cinnamon. There is almost an apple character that is probably due to the cinnamon. Alcohol is very noticeable although this fades as the beer warms. There is some vanilla and toast in the background with a very light bitterness. The mouhtfeel is quite watery, though, and doesn’t really hold up to the strength of the beer.
Overall, I was a little disappointed. The mouthfeel is quite weak and I feel the beer lacks complexity. There are many better pumpkin beers out there.

Bottle into an ale glass. Pour is a haze amber orange with a fine head. Aroma well its a fresh pumpkin pie with a malt back. Taste is as it smells. Finish is very crisp with a bitter pumpkin that holds on a while. A very good ale.

Weyerbacher’s Imperial Pumpkin Ale. This is a bottle I picked up at Řlbutikken in Copenhagen. 8% this beer is made with spices including cardamom so I curious to see how adding that to the mix will change things. It pours an opaque reddish brown with a very light beige head. A not overly spiced sweet aroma, cloves, cardamom, cinnamon seems balanced. The taste is medium bodied, sweet & fruity with a bunch of spices in the finish. Fairly complex, I think it’s more my style than Southern Tier. More of a general fruitiness than truly pumpkin but less spice forward(at least straight from the fridge) pretty good.
