Brewed with Pumpkin and Spices(Cinnamon,Nutmeg,Cardamom,Cloves). This 8.0% ABV pumpkin ale is heartier, spicier, and more caramelly and pumpkiny than its faint brethren! Perfect finisher on a cool autumn night, or match it up with a slice of pumpkin pie and fresh whipped cream. If you don't agree this is the mother of all pumpkin ales, then you just don't like mothers!

Growler from Village Beer Merchant. Pours a medium amber color with nice light tan head. Nose is spice, fruit, and alcohol. Smells like banana bread more than pumkin pie. Light, sparkling mouthfeel for an 8%-er. Tastes like a desert bakerís take on a double hefeweizen. The yeast fruitiness and banana flavor couples well with the actual spices used. The cinnamon, nutmeg, and clove stand out above the pumpkin. Itís a bit boozy but I can still taste the pumpkin spice flavor minutes after my last sip. Used to be my favorite pumpkin ale, and it is still a delicious one, but a little too much spice for me to drink more than one or two at a time.

Bottle. Pours a a fairly unclear amber brown beer with a small, quickly disappearing white head on top. Aroma of cinnamon, pumpkin spices, nutmeg and other herbal notes. Flavor is rather sweet, cinnamon faded a bit to the background, making way for other spices, malty sweetness and some boozy notes. Really rich, full and has a long sweet aftertaste. Nice one.

Bottle @ RVA 22nd. Floaties in amber color with light head. Nice spiced aroma- not over done. Actually does taste a little pumpkiny under the spice.

Sampled from a bottle, this beer had a hazy medium to dark brown pour with a bit of red mixed in, and the pour made a thin layer of faint off-white bubbles that thinned out to a small ring, it had a big spice aroma, cinnamon, ginger, pepper, nutmeg, some malt and a little bread, malt and bread sweetness, the pumpkin /vegetable was in the background, the flavors were spices with toasted malt and bread, a little fruit, and malt sweetness, the finish had a small spice and alcohol bitterness, the mouth feel was more than medium, it coated the tongue a bit, it was a little creamy and had average carbonation, a big spice beer with not much pumpkin or vegetable in this beer, the flavor was not as spicy as I was expecting with the amount of spice on the nose, but it was pretty much all spice and malt in the flavor, very little to no pumpkin, not a beer I would want to try again.

Bottle. Pours a cloudy amber color with almost no head. Smells of spice. No lacing. The taste is sour and spicy with a bad aftertaste from the spice. I didnít detect any pumpkin. I didnít like this one.

I had this at a Rock music festival a month ago on tap. My impression was that there was more spice, mint and herbs than pumpkin. I didnít really get pumpkin. It also had a lot of alcohol taste to it. Maybe it was that particular keg, but it was a very aggressive tasting beer.

Pours a copper color with a thin white head that quickly disappears. Aroma is pumpkin, caramel, and spices, such as nutmeg and allspice. Flavor is dominated by the spices, with cardamom, cinnamon, and nutmeg dominating. Slightly sweet, with a lightly bitter finish. Enjoyable, if a bit too heavy on the spices.

BOD 7/28/15. Pours a medium amber with a nice orange/red hue that is slightly hazy. Normal head volume and retention. Poor lacing. World class nose of rich blended spice (nutmeg and cinnamon with hints of cardamom and clove) over a solid malt base of biscuit with strong caramel notes. Solid heavy medium body with a semi-creamy texture that is quite smooth. A bit light on the carbonation with almost no effervescence in the middle and a fairly good burst in the finish. The flavor profile is outstanding and could achieve world class status if the alcohol were completely hidden. Dial this back to around 6 - 7 % ABV, pump up the carbonation and it has a good shot at it. First to arrive is a rich blend of spice over an equally rich malt base. These flavors are there to the finish and slowly separate. Nutmeg and cinnamon take the lead and the middle delivers a solid pumpkin flavor. As the pumpkin arrives, cardamom takes over the spice leadership. Towards the finish, a light touch of phenolic clove appears and the malt base becomes more caramel influenced. Unfortunately, here is also where alcohol removes its mask. While not obscenely offensive, it is noticeable adding an astringency and grain alcohol flavor to this, otherwise, near world class beer. The finish is a slow smooth fade of all flavor components.

Bottle. Orange brown with a medium off-white head. Pumpkin, cinnamon, cardamom, cream, brown sugar and green leaves. Brown sugar sweetness followed by a dry spice finish. Body is heavier with a foamy feel.
