Big heavy boozy beer. Good carbonation makes it smooth drinking. Still a sipper though. ABV is present but evenly distributed through the tasting. Sweet but not overly so. Good balance. Excellent barleywine.

Figs, raisins, booze, oak aroma. Rubbing alcohol at the end. Taste is a bit sweet, not really composed. Just kinda there, nothing special. Meh.

It pours a dark amber/brown. The aroma sweet and tangy. You can definitely taste the bourbon along with honey and other spices. It has a medium mouth-feel. Overall not a bad beer.

Bottle. Pours a slightly transparent dark amber with very little head. Aroma of wheat, malts, and alcohol. Taste of alcohol and hints of grasses and a bourbon/oak aftertaste

Wow this stuff is wildly good, and Iím not a lover of this style. Iíve always wanted to try this one though, so thanks to Ron for providing me a bottle. A couple things hit you right away. Really thick pour, with lots of stuff flopping around in it, completely unstrained. Kind of a murky orange. Sort of a medicine and alcohol nose, heavy. Some bourbon, some wood. And it tastes so good, starts off like a candy bar. Butterscotch, toffee, nuts, fruit. There is tons going on here. It does overwhelm a bit, and you need to drink it slow, but its good.

3.8 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 17/20
Ar: Nougat and dark caramel, strawberry - a bit of bubblegum.
Ap: Deep amber-brown, murky - small off-white head with moderate-low retention, and a thin film and ring of foam.
T: Sweet nougat and toffee - coconut, apple, and some black pepper - medium-high bitterness, mossy - clean alcohol - finish is candied orange, pear, and burnt sugars - vanilla, oak, and alcohol on the finish.
P: Full body with medium-high carbonation - finish is medium-dry.
O: A big, complex barleywine - great nougat flavor, with a well-integrated barrel character, and a spot-on balance of sweetness, alcohol, and bitterness.

4.3 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 10/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 18/20
Pours hazy orange-brown with no head whatsoever. Delightful malty aroma with notes of vanilla, molasses and a hint of alcohol. Sublimely complex flavor with strong vanilla/bourbon notes and woody character. Smooth, velvety mouthfeel does nothing to betray its considerable alcohol content. One of my all-time favorites. In fact, itís the only beer that I try to always have on hand.

3.8 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20
Bottle to glass. Pours a hazy deep copper light brown color with an almost instantly disappearing light tan head. Aroma is a very toasty sweetness with hints of dark fruits, bourbon, vanilla, and molasses. Flavor is moderately hot with a heavy bourbon vanilla sweetness. Thick and creamy on the palate with a lasting molasses sweetness and alcohol burn on the back of the throat. Delicious.

3.4 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 5/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20
Poured a burnt caramel color and a little thick with two fingers of foam that fell fast enough to a thin film on top and some big loose bubbles around the edge of the glass. Shimmering wet lace. Nose is toasted malt, sweet, sweet caramel and dark ripe fruits. Rains, figs oak and vanilla. No hop presence on the nose. Sugary and reminds one of cake. Taste is big and boozy! Sweet with lots of malt sugar, toasted malt a little char in back and smooth vanilla. For how boozy it is itís plenty good. Alcohol is hot and warms from the nose to the last swallow. Stays hot in the aftertaste too. Body is thick and heavy. Itís surprisingly delicious like a good sweet raisin bread that someone spiked. This one is for sipping and while I found it a bit too heavy I am glad I tried it. Reminds me of rum, sticky and very sweet.
