COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Insanity, first released November 2004, is Weyerbacher's latest creation in the world of cutting edge beers. Insanity is made by aging our perfectly balanced Blithering Idiot Barleywine in oak bourbon casks. This incredible combination creates a melange of flavors such as malt, dates, oak, vanilla, and bourbon just to name a few.

Pours a dark amber color with an off-white head. Aroma is sweet with oak, vanilla, a hint of bourbon, and some dark fruits. Flavor is also strong of the dark fruits, oak, and bourbon. Hints of vanilla and plenty of alcohol warming on the finish.

Pours a reddish hue with a quickly dissipating white head. Aroma is fruity with big bourbon barrel notes. Flavor is a delicious red fruit with a bit of sweetness. Boozy warming finish. Very solid; worth the $15 4-pack

12 Fl. Oz. Bottle. Poured hazy reddish brown, little and quickly disappearing head. Aroma of dark fruit and wood and alcohol. Taste is sweet, complex, fruit and bourbon are predominant, some malts in there too; warms you up nicely... But it has a pleasant Finnish... Very enjoyable.

Pours a deep amber with brown hue. Has the aroma of sweetness, oak, raisins and whiskey. Taste is very smooth at first of oak, raisins, dates, and then finishes strong with a slight boozey flavor of whiskey. Very nice.

keanex (1503) - Atco, New Jersey, USA - FEB 25, 2014
Bottled December 11, 2013.
Appearance: The body has a light velvety haze with a amber to ruby hue. The head is short and short lived, quickly becoming a thin light tan coating with a bubbly ring.
Aroma: The aroma is complex and delightful. I get hints of caramel, brown sugar, vanilla, bourbon, oak and fruity sort of raspberry esters. What a nice aroma with decent strength.
Taste: The flavor is similar to the aroma, complex and decently balanced. From the intro to the mid taste I get a malty sweetness of caramel with vanilla and hints of oak and bourbon. The finish is a bit bolder with the malts and adds the fruity esters along with a boozy warming finish. Really nice beer here.
Palate: Full-bodied with mild carbonation.
Overall: While this is no Sucaba, this is certainly a great bourbon barrel barley wine that finds itself at a very affordable price compared to others. This is a must buy for me every year.

Bottled 12/17/13 bottle, drunk 2/22/14
Chestnut-auburn body has a smattering of beige head that fizzles away to the edge. Clear, filtered.
Bourbon in the nose, not surprisingly. Soft, lots of coconut and pineapple with light caramel malts in support. Shockingly low on the alcohol vapors. I had 10:1 odds this thing was a fusel bomb. Still the aroma, other than the well-developed, well-rounded barrel character, is pretty lacking in much else, and not overly strong.
Soft, low carbonated mouthfeel is at least free from tannic dryness, and the malt is well-attenuated, but still leaves enough suppleness to give a comforting texture. Coconut, caramel, light pineapple and touches of berry-like melanoidins. As with all Weyerbacher beers, way too filtered (diotomaceous earth still?) stripping much of the mouthfeel and even lending wateriness on the finish. Granted, with this malty of a beer, it’s somewhat mitigated, but still noticeable. Rather simplistic, though at least pleasant, flavor. I will say, the alcohol is very well-concealed at this level. Thanks to Jtclockwork for the bottle!

Bottle. Beautiful hazy brown with a perfect finger of white head. Fig, vanilla, caramel, apricot, oak. Awesome aroma. Flavor is less impressive though good. Medium to full body. A lot of alcohol

Snifter pour at the Sybarite Pig in Boca Raton. Awesome deep brown pour with a thick white fluffy head. Not bad lacing either. Aroma is deep with dark fruits, sweet caramel candies, vanilla, oak barrel, and spices. The taste doesn’t quite live up to the aroma but it is very good. You really get the sweet dark fruits and then the booze/barrel come on the back-end. Not too boozie for an 11.1%. Well balanced. Medium-full body, light carbonation. Really enjoyed this one. Weyerbacher has really been knocking it out of the park lately.

Murky opaque dark woody copper with a thin rocky light tan head. Aroma is wonderful with caramelly bourbon, oak, light char, vanilla, brown sugar, and dates. Perfect smell for a beer and bourbon lover. Flavor is big and strong with a melange of intense flavours, like oak, boozy bourbon, charred caramel, vanilla, boozy honey, raisins/dates, a wee bit of spruce, earthy sweet toffee fudge, finishing with a wee bit more char and bourbon notes, and a kiss of oak and vanilla.
