Poured a nice amber color with not much head but a good bit of floaties. Huge bourbon aroma and flavor. Can sense the alcohol in this one a bit. I have not head Blithering Idiot yet, but was excited to try this since there does not seem to be a whole lot of bottles around lately. Overall this one balanced well although it did have an overwhelming bourbon thing going on.

4.1 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 9/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 17/20
Bottle: Poured a light burgundy color ale with a small dark head with pretty good retention. Aroma of sweet liquor filtered subtly through the malt and sweet hops of this beer. Taste is quite sweet but at least the bourbon aging and come well together at the end do not overpower it. Probably one of the best bourbon aging beers I had. Thanks to Beerslayer for that one.

Well, stupid me for liking this. Sweet? Damn right it is. But it still comes together for me. Sure it teeters and threatens to fall, but live on the edge I have and even if Iíve had beers that did a far better job of going to the extremes, this one packed a pleasing punch. Thick and chewy and - just suppose that either it or I was the lucky one for my mood being aligned with the pleasure it provided. Would say that it was me (and thinking that as another side note to my stupidity that either I deleted this rating or never entered it as I had this months ago)

3.5 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 14/20
Thanks DocLock! A hazy Ruby/Orange brew with a slight beige head. Strong wood (Barrel) scent with rich malts creeping into the background. Alcohol like a fine Bourbon whiskey also noticeable. Potent, lip smackingly sweet and warming as soon as it touches your lips. Rich malts with plenty of wood and alcohol fill every nook and cranny of your mouth. Warms....if not burns, all the way down. Not one for the faint of heart or palate.

4.2 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 9/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 17/20
22 oz bottle, Dark amber color. Nearly red. Small sized white foamy head, with strong lacing. Aroma is malt, fruit and bourbon. A medium to full bodied Barley Wine aged in bourbon barrels. Malts are fruity and sweet, with some brown sugar and whole lot of bourbon flavors. Nice smooth beer. Hides the 11% alcohol very well. Just a touch of alcohol in the finish. Great sipping beer. Mouthfeel is full and round. Finish is clean and smooth. Aftertaste is slightly bitter with a touch of alcohol.

3.7 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20
Aroma of caramel, nuts, and raosted garlic. Pours thick and syrupy with a maple syrup like reminder. The flavor is thick with hints of leaves and basement flavors such as rusty axe and yeasty barrel. Full body with oil feel but smooth finish. This beer is great and I recommmend this to anyone who likes Barely wine and seasonal specials.

Thanks Wunderbier. A big alcohol and citrus aroma. A dark orange appearance. A heavy earthy and oak presence with some caramel, cherries, and sour fruit in the flavor. A warming and sour aftertaste. I enjoyed the INSANITY!

3.6 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20
Hazy amber/copper coloured body with a thinnish off-white head. ARoma of oak, vanilla, bourbon, malt, toffee, raisins and alcohol. Full-bodied; Strong oak & vanilla flavours with a subtle alcohol taste. Malt and pit fruits very prevalent after the initial tastes. Aftertaste shows must and a few mellow undertones of alcohol and oak. Overall, a nice beer-I sampled this side-by-side with the normal Blithering Idiot, and I prefer the non-oaked version! I sampled this 65 cL bottle purchased at Normís in Vienna, Virginia on 09-January-2005.

2.7 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 5/10 PALATE 2/5 OVERALL 11/20
Bottle. Deep ruby in colour. Huge aroma of vanilla and bourbon with some hops coming through (mainly pine and oranges). Bourdon dominates the flavour, the vanilla make this almost unbearably sweet. Medium body, medium carbonation. Finishes with some alcohol heat, quite sweet and lingering. I canít say that I liked this one very much.
