Poured from a bottle into a snifter. Appearance is a dark reddish Amber with a thin white head. Aroma is sweet with honey, bourbon, and some citrus. Taste is heavy on bourbon with caramel and honey. Boozy finish that warms. Really smooth with almost perfect carbonation.
3.4 AROMA 9/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 13/20 Tmoney36 (6) - - MAY 19, 2013 does not count
Starts with a very oaky, bourbon aroma. Visually dark amber, opaque with sediment. Has the bourbon taste but not well balanced and boozy. Unfortunate as it has the smell of a great bourbon aged barley wine but not a smooth balanced taste. Nice malt to it but over come with alcohol taste.

Bottle pour into snifter..aged 1 year..dark purplish color..particles galore..quite cloudy..cant say I have ever seen a cloudier barleywine than this..little head as expected..aroma of cream..vanilla..plum..and bourbon booziness..surprisingly not as full bodied as expected for the 11.1..last few barleywine offerings I have had have been bourbon barrel aged and I am not feeling the combination..like a high octane bourbon cream soda..
3.7 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20 Sperine (155) - North Wales, Pennsylvania, USA - MAY 4, 2013
Bottle. As someone who is a big fan of Blithering Idiot, the barrel aged counterpart did not disappoint. The only downside is that this beer is so big that it limits its drinkability.

Great God, this is good beer. The body is an inviting, thick-looking, creamy brown, and the head fades quickly and leaves little lace. The aroma is sweet and rich. Notes of honey and booze. The flavor is just freaking outstanding. The big presence is vanilla. I’ve had vanilla bean beer that didn’t have this much vanilla. Bourbon barrel stouts don’t bring the vanilla out of the oak aging as well as this barley wine does. This is like a french vanilla milkshake level vanilla. Just incredibly rich and smooth. There is also boozy, malty, bready stuff going on, too. It’s rare that a beer this sweet appeals to me as much as this one does, but damn. Sweet and rich doesn’t get better than this. This is a fine, fine beer, and easily the best thing I’ve had from Weyerbacher.
3.8 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20 phikus01 (84) - New York, USA - APR 29, 2013
Interesting. On the brink of cough medicine, but offers an oaky candied hop aroma, vanilla roasty burgundy flavor
3.9 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20 Chuckaduck (490) - Kentucky, USA - APR 26, 2013
Bottle. 4/26/13. Pours a cloudy amber-green with no head. Aroma is very clean; bread, vanilla, lots of fruit, alcohol, oak, bourbon. Taste is similar, big, warming; dark fruits, bourbon, vanilla, wood/oak, lots of rich malt flavor, caramel, bread; finish is long, bitter fruit skins. Vague, spotty lacing. Mouth feel is thick, oily. Medium-low carbonation; this would not work well with aggressive bubbles. My only criticism is that I found there to be a little too much barrel; the vanilla is very nice but the oak and bourbon are a touch dominating. Still quite excellent.

Pours garnet with almost no head, just a very thin off white collar. Aroma is tons of dried fruit upfront with oak vanilla and smooth bourbon undertones. Taste is great, dried fig and some raisin, a vanilla caramel sweetness, a bit of oaky bourbon and just a small amount of bitterness in the end, this is a pretty good barrel aged barley wine that doesn’t get cloyingly sweet like some of the others.
