Bottle 12fl.oz. @ home.

Clear medium to dark orange amber colour with a small average, frothy - fizzy, fair lacing, mostly diminishing, off-white head. Aroma is moderate to heavy malty, caramel, wood, moderate riped fruit - berry, moderate dried fruit, bourbon, moderate hoppy. Flavour is moderate to heavy sweet and bitter with a long duration, bourbon, light licorice - laber larver. Nice balanced. Body is medium, texture is oily, carbonation is soft, finish feel is light to moderate alcoholic. [20121121]

A hazy orange beer with a thin beige head. The aroma is quite faint, but what is there is of malt and caramel. The flavor is better, with primary notes of caramel, but also light notes of alcohol and vanilla (from the oak). The end is very dry and quite woody, but also with notes of cowberries.

Bottled. Brownish red, a bit hazy, colour, beige small head. Plummy and sugary aroma with hints of vanilla. Quite the same in flavour, except that alcohol shows up more in the flavour than nose. Very wellbalanced.

UPDATED: APR 27, 2005 Bottled. Hazy red, near no head. Woody apple brandy nose - calvados! malty and sweet with clean mouthfeel and a completely overpowering bourbon/calvados wood flavour. Sugary finish. One-dimensional undiluted barrel flavour. A disappointment.

27th December 2008. Cloudy brown beer with an orange tint. No real head. Sweetich start - a little saccharine - mild caramel then vanilla oak and a definite spicy note at the end. Very slightly fruity. Complex but I could really do without the saccharine dryness.

Dark amber color with a red light; thin creamy head. The aroma is malty, with a touch of vanilla and very light wallnut. Thick body, full malt flavor, very sweet, with sweet caramel and fudge too, a hint of liquorice. Even the final is very sweet, not enough hopped, there is a lot of malt and caramel, some sweet liquorice; the alcohol warmth is too much. Not enough complex, not fully convincing; and the barrel is missing in action. For the lovers of malt juice.
