Bomber into shaker. Purchased at Discount Liquor in Milwaukee. Hazy orange brown with a yellow head thatís fuzzy and dissipates into a mottled surface of bubbles. Rich smell of golden raisin, vanilla, and syrup. Creamy and full in texture, sweet but not intensely so, mostly tastes of overripe fruit, butterscotch, and twigs. The bourbon barrel comes out with some more vanilla in the finish, which is smooth and maybe a bit mealy. It is kind of a mess, but I find it tasty nonetheless. The bourbon is restrained (I donít find it "boozy" at all) and Iím a sucker for a full barleywine. Glad I bought it.

Aroma is dark fruit/grapes, malts and a good hint of sweetness. The flavor is dark fruit, malts, vinous notes and a mix of mild sourness/tartness and alcohol in the finish.

Reviewed from notes. This was poured into a chalice and a snifter. The head was slightly larger but a half finger in the snifter. In the both glasses, the appearance had a nice looking dark brown color with a nice moderate lacing coating the sides of both glasses. The smell had a nice conglomeration of plums, dates, and vanilla substances that seemed to be combined nicely into a blend of roasty oaky/slightly bourbon-like aromas. The taste was subtly sweet through the dark fruits and yet it still brought forth the nice alcohol warmth from the bourbon. On the palate, this one sat about a medium and tried to show a heavier aspect that honestly, didnít quite just cut it just yet. This one was more of a sipper for the most part and had a pretty good carbonation underneath it all. Overall, in my opinion, this was a good barleywine worthy of having again.

The aroma, one word......sweet. Oak seeps out of it. Vanilla is tucked away in there. The initial taste fills your mouth with oak and increases on the palate. Did I mention it is 11%?? I dig it. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

Respectable barley wine. Pours reddish brown decent head and lacing. Sweet caramelized malt. A little on syrupy side. OK.

It has a powerful aroma of oak and alcohol, dates and prunes. It is murky brown in color with little head and limited lacing. It has a powerfully warm kick on the way down that is dominated by oak, a bourbon and touch of vanilla.

P: Murky mud brown body like sludge run off with a minimal taupe head that fades quick. Snail trail lacing. S: Overripe pineapple nearly rotten, sulfur farts, sour milk, subtle banana phenol, agave nectar, prunes, corn syrup, hints of berries and bourbon soaked wood. T/M: Melted toffee, thick butterscotch that sticks to the roof of your mouth, buttery almonds, cardboard, bitter apple peels, banana, brown sugar, loads of killed barley and a slight chalkiness on the end. Mouthfeel is sticky and thick like a dentists nightmare and the carbonation is at a dull roar that keeps the thickness going. O: Caution this may cause a diabetic comma. I imagine this is pretty close to drinking pancake syrup from the bottle. Sweet, thick, sticky malt at every angle of this brew. Nice bitterness at the end to round it all off. I love the oaked presence that brings in the bourbon presence. Iím anxious to try two vintages side by side. Cheers! Serving type: bottle

Pours a opaque iced tea color. Fizzy head that quickly subsides. Aroma of figs/dates, brown sugar and oak hints. Taste is a dark fruit bomb, like a fig newton without the crust, bourbon and oak notes and faint glimpses of vanilla. Alcohol is a bit noticeable on the finish but not obscenely hot. Good stuff. Need to get some to age.

Bottle: Pours cloudy, light to medium brown in gradients...minimal off-white ring. Caramel, light bourbon and wood aroma. Raisin, vanilla, oak and bourbon flavor. Increasing alcohol prescence. Sweet and clumsily boozy.

Hazy dark brown/amber color with a fizzy white head. Aroma is boozy but I can note the bourbon/oak with some fruit and caramel. It has a nice sweetness. Flavor is overall smooth for the alcohol amount. I get the nice bourbon and fruit/caramel. There is not much on the back end however that is where the alcohol seems to come in. Mouthfeel is sweet carbonation is average. Overall a well done beer.
