Lima is up next and no, we did not make a lima bean beer or anything inspired by the Peruvian capital city. We made a relatively new style (new to GABF) called an “American-Style India Black Ale”. The name is pretty self explanatory, but you’ve already had a beer or two so I’ll explain. It is like taking a traditional IPA and adding dark malts which add color and a moderate roasty character. It is still in the tank as I type, but we have added nearly 5.5 pounds of hops per barrel making this beer as sticky as any we have ever made. It should end up being around 6.3% ABV and will tip the IBU scale at around 70

Pours a deep brown with amber notes and a medium creamy/bubbly lighter tan head. Aroma of fresh American hops. Mixed citrus, floral notes and lightly grassy. Light touch of roasted malt, nuts and caramel poking through. Flavor of a nice touch of roasted malt, hop bitterness, grapefruit, lemon and pine. Really fresh and crisp black IPA. Find it now and drink it fresh!

Tap at Redlight. Blackish brown pour with a tan, thick rocky head. Pungent citrus hop aroma with some herbal hop notes as well and some roastiness. Taste has some smoky roasty notes in the malt with a spicy citrus hop bitterness. Body is a little thin, which is about the only thing lacking in this brew.

Roasty malt aroma. Dark in color. An interesting brew, balanced all-in-all. A somewhat IPA like hoppiness is present, but roasted malts, almost porter-like, are there as well. Sweetness and bitterness with floral hops in the mix. Very interesting and worth trying.
