COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Formerly Weyerbacher Belgian Triple.
At Weyerbacher we've recreated a Belgian Trippel without limitation. We use premium Pilsener malts, candi-sugar, and yeast strains- all imported from Belgium. To be true to the style, our Trippel is bottle conditioned. This means we add a bit of candi-sugar and yeast just prior to bottling. This imparts a special effervescence to the beer, a creamier carbonation, and also extends the shelf life. The on-going fermentation inside the bottle will change the character of the beer as it ages, and you'll find it becomes dryer with age. You may want to lay down a few bottles for future evaluation. We suggest storing at cellar temperatures -around 55 degrees F- and away from light.

(Growler from Whole Foods) Cloudy orange body with a thin off-white head. Deliciously strong aroma of yeast, bubble gum, banana, spices and some orange. Flavor of bubblegum, lots of spice (clove), moderate alcohol, fairly sweet, yeast and straw. Medium to full body, rounded, thick feel.

Poured from a 12 ounce bottle into a snifter. Pours a nice gold color with a white head of foam. In the aroma I get some nice banana notes with clove and some herbs. Taste is sweet with some alcohol coming through, but for the most part being covered up by clove and banana esters. It’s a good Tripel.

Pours a hazy amber with a one finger fluffy white head. Really nice carbonation and lacing. The taste is cloves, banana, ginger, and nutmeg. Not as balanced as other belgian style offerings from unibroue. Good but not great.

clean tasting spicy golden ale. Little lacing and little color but good overall.

Reviewed 9/03. 12 oz bottle poured into a Duvel tulip. A: Pours a hazy golden amber color. Yeast clouds up the body in a uniform manner. The head is a three finger white color with a great texture for a Belgian-style - normally they have a light, frothy look to them, but this is downright thick and creamy. As the head recedes, an incredibly thick wall of lacing sticks to the side of the glass vigorously. This would be a 5 aesthetically if the head retention were a little better. S: Spicy and yeasty like a good tripel, but not nuanced like a exceptional tripel. Candied sugar and alcohol also pervade the aroma as secondary notes, before becoming primary notes after several whiffs. T: At first, the spices (peppercorn, coriander, and clove) coexist with a fair amount of candied sugar; the latter slowly dissipates, leaving the spice profile to coexist with a neutral malt base and a mildly boozy finish. Hints of bubblegum also make an appearance. It’s reminiscent of Golden Monkey - another average tripel that’s too low on drinkability. M: Quite heavy on the tongue, in fact, it’s a classic example of a beer where the flavors can’t compete with the heft of the body. Carbonation is unfocused, and doesn’t scrub clean the palate as well as it could, or perhaps should. The only drying sensation is a bit of yeast astringency on the finish. Not very drinkable. O: While not my favorite style, I know when I’ve got a great tripel on my hands. This is not one of them. The flavor profile is too muddled, and it’s too hard to drink. Worth a try, I guess, but don’t lose sleep looking for this - there are many better examples of the style.

Tried this at the GABF in Denver, CO. Great Belgian trippel made with Belgian malts, candi sugar and yeast, then bottle conditioned with more candi sugar. Great aroma, great flavor. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

12oz bottle, with older-style label. Clear golden color, with fine particles visible in the body. Good white head, leaving decent lace. Bitter taste, sort of a spicy sweet bite. Nice smooth soft carbonation, more dry texture. Good strong banana aroma, light spice, belgian yeast. Long yeasty banana spice aftertaste. An alright Midwestern Belgian Tripel, but it doesn’t really stand up to Stoudts or Victory’s in my opinion

Bottle into a goblet. Aroma is of fruit and malt. Pour is a hazy orange gold with a fine head. Taste is a nice warmth with a round fruit and malt. Finish is way over the top, fruitful malt that lasts. This is a great ale!!! Be only 50 miles away from the source helps.I

Poured a cloudy orange with a fairly big head. Nice citris aroma and a complex taste of sweet malts. Well-balanced, well made Belgian triple.

12 ounce bottle. Pours a hazy honey gold color. Small brief white head. Yeasty alcohol aroma with hints of banana and lemon peel. At first, some residual sweet fruity maltiness that disappates quickly and becomes more dryish and complex. I pick up notes of vanilla, banana and honey. This is a big, complex ale very much in the vein of the classic Belgian Tripel style. Finish is long and cloying, with cognac-like notes. A tremendous effort from the folks at Weyerbacher.
