COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Our latest creation, MUSE, is a Farmhouse Ale with a distinctive Weyerbacher signature. Farmhouse Ales, by tradition, were used as restoratives for workers during the warmer months under the hot midday sun. Typically made with barley, sometimes wheat and oats as well, a Farmhouse Ale could be light golden to amber in color, but always with a dry, slightly tart finish, thus being a great thirst quencher.
Weyerbacher MUSE is light amber in color, brewed with barley and a healthy dose of raw wheat and raw oats as per tradition, to give it a mouthfeel that’s both silky and light at the same time. The wheat and oats add a bit of cloudiness to the beer as well, so don’t be afraid, sometimes cloudy is good! A very special Belgian yeast strain was used to ferment this particular brew, and it was done at downright “hot” temperatures, 78 F, in order for the yeast to develop its spicy profile that is expected for a Farmhouse Ale. No spices were added to this brew, its all from the yeast.
MUSE is hopped with Styrian Goldings for bitter, and Saaz for aroma, both just adding even more to the dryness of the brew. Putting it all together, you have a slightly spicy palate, with pleasant aromas and very dry, mildly bitter finish. At 6.2%, you’ll want another one so you can ponder this intriguing taste profile, and you may find yourself wondering why you haven’t explored Farmhouse Ales before!

Bright orange, hazy, short-lived off-white head. Peculiar aroma. Peach fuzz, wet goat fur. Fascinating flavors, can’t put finger on most of them. Fruity for sure but also dry. Guava, es. Custard apple, maybe. Whacked out tropical fruits and apple skin.

Pours a hazy orange with brown undertones. Head is off-white and small, dissipating to a rimming/filmy fizziness. Nose is slighly funky yeast with a bright fruity citrus and a mild sweet maltiness. Flavor is lemony citrus with a muddled wheaty character, some peach notes and a muddled, dry bitter at the end. Nice mouth feel with moderate carb. Pretty decent saison. Nothing crazy nor over the top, but very drinkable.

Naka (630) - Indiana, Pennsylvania, USA - AUG 3, 2008
Pours a murky golden orange color with a thick buttercream colored head. Lasts for a little bit, but then dissolves into a thick rim. Aroma of bitey yeast with some fruity acidity and brown sugar sweetness. The flavor is kind of grainy with a papery bitter. The fruity characteristics, a little peach and apricot, come out as it warms slightly. The body of this beer is slightly creamy. It doesn’t really stand up with some of the better saisons I’ve tried, but it is a decent beer and for the price I’d probably pick it up again.

Pours hazy amber with off white head. Aromas of sour funk and yeast. Flavor is mildly sweet with some spice, pepper and bread dough. Medium body with mild carbonation for a saison. Goes down smooth with a dry finish. Not outstanding, but very drinkable.

This Saison pours a hazy yellow/ gold color. It has a healthy white head, and smells of yeast, wood, and spices. It tastes spicy with yeast, wood, and has a peppery finish. A respectable Saison.

Bottle. Pours orange with an off white head. Aroma is rather light, with yeast, caramel, and spice. Medium body. Flavor is again rather light, with fruit, yeast, and spice. Pretty bland. Quite boring.

22oz bottle. Odd and not altogether enticing aroma. I smelled a hint of dried leather shoe and subdued cereal grains. Not quite as fragrant as the Lost Abbey Carnevale I recently tried. Poured a clear medium orange color. The head was two fingers high and white with decent retention. Some lace was left behind on the glass. Light to medium bodied and dry throughout. Some bitterness came out at the end. I tasted stale fleshy fruits, a hint of white paper, and subdued spices. There was also a bit of citrus. Pretty lousy Saison.

(22 oz. bottle from Tully’s) Pours cloudy apricot-amber with a couple of fingers of off-white head. Aroma is sweet and sour, some candy and yeast, a bit of light fruit perhaps - overall it wasn’t particularly inviting to me. Mouthfeel is a little thick and sticky for a saison I think. Dries out through finish. Flavor is light sweet and sour, sourish yeast, a bit of a dry lemony taste. I guess a decent Belgian-like beer but didn’t have the refreshing palate and fresh bready, citrusy taste I really like in a saison.
