COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Our latest creation, MUSE, is a Farmhouse Ale with a distinctive Weyerbacher signature. Farmhouse Ales, by tradition, were used as restoratives for workers during the warmer months under the hot midday sun. Typically made with barley, sometimes wheat and oats as well, a Farmhouse Ale could be light golden to amber in color, but always with a dry, slightly tart finish, thus being a great thirst quencher.
Weyerbacher MUSE is light amber in color, brewed with barley and a healthy dose of raw wheat and raw oats as per tradition, to give it a mouthfeel that’s both silky and light at the same time. The wheat and oats add a bit of cloudiness to the beer as well, so don’t be afraid, sometimes cloudy is good! A very special Belgian yeast strain was used to ferment this particular brew, and it was done at downright “hot” temperatures, 78 F, in order for the yeast to develop its spicy profile that is expected for a Farmhouse Ale. No spices were added to this brew, its all from the yeast.
MUSE is hopped with Styrian Goldings for bitter, and Saaz for aroma, both just adding even more to the dryness of the brew. Putting it all together, you have a slightly spicy palate, with pleasant aromas and very dry, mildly bitter finish. At 6.2%, you’ll want another one so you can ponder this intriguing taste profile, and you may find yourself wondering why you haven’t explored Farmhouse Ales before!

Bomber poured a cloudy orange with a lasting off white head. Aromas of straw, light carmel, floral, citrus and light spice. Palate was light bodied and crisp with a dry finish. Flavors of straw, spice, light carmellight earthiness and a hint of fruittiness with a crisp dry earthy finish.

Orlando, Fl. - Knightly Spirits - 22 oz bomber. Pours a delightful murky deep orange with a soft, pillowy, sticky white head. Delicate yeasty aroma with just a hint of lemon. Flavor is thirst quenching and delicious. Pick up some peaches, butter, lemon, yeasty back end, hints of cookie dough. Thick, smooth mouthfeel, Quickly becoming one of my favorite styles - and a definite winner from one of my new favorite brewers.

Feb. 25, 2009; 22 oz. "bomber"; chalice; $6 USD @ Kraig’s Keg’s, Sherill, NY USA. Attractive cloudy amber color, with an even, tiny-bubbled head and lacing . Aroma is musty & fruity. Flavor screams "Belgian"; citrus-fruity as well, with a "love-it-or-hate-it" bitter & astringent character another rater accurately likened to quinine. Body is hearty. While this flawed brew falls into the "strong" ale category, it would be interesting to sample an historically-correct (i.e., lower alcohol) saison for comparison’s sake. After all, a five-liter daily allotment of this would’ve incapacitated the harvest workers whom it was intended to refresh.

22oz bottle thanks to Jah Noth. Pours a hazy golden yellow with a foamy quickly dissipating off white head. Aromas of slight yeast funk, and some hops. Flavors are dry, citrus notes, and some hops. Palate is mediocre. Pretty big let down considering the brewer.

Bottle. Poured a hazy, bright orange color with a moderate white head that faded to a ring. A bit of a weird cheesy, funky aroma (not necessarily in the good way) with hints of wheat, faint barnyard, and light earthy hops. Lightly dry, smooth entry with some soft lemon peel and a lightly dry yeastiness that ends abruptly and very little earthy hoppiness. Moderate carbonation with some bite, but it isn’t nearly dry enough. A let down, there are definitely some off characteristics that mask regular saison nuances and subtleties.

Light orange colored ale. Sour fruit, corn and polish dominate the poorly concentrated nose. Flavor is better than the nose, but still shows no finesse, no balance, is overly sweet and polish-like and has poor muddled flavors and poorly hidden alcohol. WTF.

(bottle - 22 oz) Hazy golden pour with a bubbly white head. Very lightly carbonated which is a surprise for a saison. Aroma is very earthy and lightly spicy with some yeast and wheat. Flavor is spicy and wheaty at the beginning with a nice transition to a Belgiany yeast flavor followed by a very earthy sourness and a dry bitter finish. A light sweetness comes back at the very end.

Bought this in Florida for $5.69 at 22 ounces. Attractive labeling, with a semi-pleasing pour. Head is nice, almost milky foam yet retains some bubbling. I am not a fan of beers with large bubbling, seeming slightly over-carbonated. Aroma is nice and wheaty, with a dominance of alcohol. The aroma also has a bite of grassy hops in the beginning, with a finish of sweetness. The look of the beer is somewhat akin to an unfiltered wheat. The taste comes carbonated on the tongue, progressing into sweetness topped with hops, and finally maturing to an alcohol infused malted, slightly bitter finish. Overall, a decent brew. Not a flagship beer, but should be at least in the 70th percentile, not 46.
