3.7 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 5/5 OVERALL 14/20
Pours an opaque black witha gorgeous tannish/brownish head that is moderate. Aroma is of the classic chocolate, but there may also be a little fruit going on there as well. Start is a sour hoppiness, which is then followed by the proverbial coholate and coffee flavors. The ending is good, but the start kinda pisses me off.

3.9 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 17/20
Small light brown head, deep dark black colored.Sweet malty/roasted malt aromas. Alcohol and burnt paper aromas are also noticable. Big roasted malt/coffee flavors. Light alcoholic finish, very drinkable doesn't wallop you like some of the other Imperial Stouts. Maybe a tad thin bodied but otherwise very enjoyable.

nice quality these Weyerbacher guys know what they are doing; it has a toasy warmth with coffee/chocolates that gets better with warming; the longer you drink it the more you'll like it and then you wonder if the drink after your last would have been the best.

4 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 17/20
UPDATED: OCT 5, 2003 Somebody slap me, I think I’m dreaming; this Imperial Stout is like going heaven, or something. This amazing Imperial was acquired in trade with a fantastic beer trader, Jeremy, jgb9348.
** Old Heathen pours like motor oil, even the strongest amounts of light are impenetrable, but it has a caramel head and lacing. It smells of malt, espresso, cognac, and a rich Canadian molasses. The flavor follows the aroma but with a few differences, it’s a bit smoky, sweet and chocolaty; this is a very toasty stout, at sometimes it’s paralleled by biting into a chard oak log, but this is so much better!
Old Heathen’s presence is simply impossible to illustrate without writing a novel, yet it is simply terrific!
** Now I feel like a poser! I just read others ratings and they are so similar to mine, it just makes me feel unoriginal, or maybe the similarities show the consistency of a great beer and a even greater group of raters?

4.5 AROMA 9/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 9/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 18/20
Beer pours (in Chimay glass) a thick black liquid light can not penetrate with dark caramel colored head that dissipates quickly , but leaves a nice top layer. Aroma is of molasses, caramel, toffee with slight alcohol. Flavor is of a faintly annoying hop (stronger when sipped, but goes away quickly) giving way to an alcohol, molasses, burnt toffee ending. Great looking, but too much hop and alcohol aroma/flavor to be the best. Still a great beer overall. Sampled at 72 degrees Fahrenheit.

2.9 AROMA 5/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 5/10 PALATE 2/5 OVERALL 14/20
Appearance: The body is dark brown, nearly black with a cocoa head that quickly disappears.
Aroma: The nose is of espresso and some bittersweet chocolate.
Mouthfeel: The first thing that hits you is the carbonation, which I could do without. It's got a slightly hoppy feel. It's smooth, but a bit thin for an Imperial stout.
Flavor: It has a simple and toasty.

3.7 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 15/20
Bottled: Black/brown coloured. Chocolate head, that dies quickly. Roasty, coffeish and chocolatish aroma. Mild and smooth flavour. Coffee, fruits and a light roastyness. A vague burnt and bitterness in the end. Easy drinkable imperial stout. Thanks Raindog.

4.3 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 9/10 PALATE 5/5 OVERALL 17/20
Fairly dark (almost really dark) with a medium khaki head. Tart roasty aroma, lots of chocolate, toasted malt and prune, with light sour cherry, vanilla, dark fruit. Slight sweet, smooth, small particle. Finishes with sour burnt toast and fruit with a little chocoate and mushroom. Pretty interesting stuff.

Choclate hit me first - well after the vision of a huge tan head and the aroma. Avery interesting case of "compare and contrast, class" after having consumed a Whistable Oyster Stout just prior. This had the Imperial status, so I had to be impressed by that - just kidding. I am however impressed by this, the third beer I've tried from Weyerbacher. Each one a definite pleasure.
