Commercial Description:
Formerly Weyerbacher Imperial Stout.
Rich, velvety and deliciously complex, Weyerbacher Imperial Stout is a truly distinctive winter warmer. We use seven types of malt and two varieties of hops to bring forth this big brew. Quite robust and roasty on the palate, Weyerbacher Imperial Stout has a wonderfully fruity nose and a moderately dry finish. The taste is highly complex- perhaps you'll even discern notes of expresso or chocolate.

Pours a pitch black with a medium mocha head that leaves streaks of lacing. Aroma is wet coffee grounds with some malt sweetness. Taste is chocolate, roasted malts, with a hint of hop sweetness. Pretty good.

Pitch black color and soapy brown head. Impossible ot see any carbonation bubbles but easy to see the lace on the glass. Chicory and chocolate aroma, and heavy malt smell. A strange cinnamon scent gives this an interesting spicy smelling finish. Bruisingly bold flavor, lots of chocolate and burnt malt. There must be a good amount of hops in this beer because the flavor is not malty sweet. for evident reasons this 8% stout has a thick palate but its a good thing. This unhearalded stout is a definite surprise.

Sweetness, fruityness, roastyness and alcohol dominate the aroma. It is very enticing. The appearance is true to the style; dark brown/black, with tan head, some lacing. The flavor is is sweet toffee, chocolate, roasted coffee, mild hops. The palate has a nice blanace to it. This is where the hops come out to make a nice bittering finish. Medium/thick mouthfeel. Excellent example of an Imperial Stout.

Bottle. Completely opaque black with small tan head. Sweet chocolate milk and mocha in a very rich bouquet that also includes vanilla. Then layers of depth like berries with chocolate and cream too. Nice aromas. Soft carbonation. Thins out in finish. Good, smooth cafe au lait flavors. Vanilla, coffee, chocolate, hint of raspberry. Nose promises a lot that the flavors don’t deliver, unfortunately.

Very dark brown/black with a tan head that dissipates pretty quickly and leaves a lace that slides rapidly down the glass. Nose of dark fruits, chocolate covered cherry cordials, and slight black coffee. Well rounded taste, consisting of dark fruits with a coffee finish. Nothing is too prominent, but I liked it.Great mouthfeel. Thick and creamy.

No date to be found on the bottle. This poured with an inch of lingering foam. Not the darkest stout I’ve seen, it has an aroma of coffee and chocolate. Well blended. The taste is quite modest compared to most other big stouts. Roasted malt and coffee flavors dominate, with a moderate chocolate character and some vinous fruit flavors. Mouthfeel is very light for the style, but creamy. Drinkability is good, but mainly due to the understated nature of this beer. Imagine some of the over the top stouts in this world, but with less concentration. This would make a great introduction to big stouts, but would not satisfy one who seeks an aggressive stout. On the lighter side of the imperial stout spectrum. Rich, and smooth but not as complex as some. There wasn’t a lot of flavor up front but it redeems itself with a tasty, dry finish. A roasted chocolate profile that I would put in the medium category.

12 oz. bottle from Wine Warehouse. Pours a chocolate brown with a big head. Good retention but poor lacing. Aroma is very mocha with some roasted malt and toffee notes. Taste is roasted malts, coffee and chocolate. Slightly bitter finish. Medium bodied.
