Creamy body with a tang. Taste is Baker’s chocolate, prune, burnt sugar and bitter grass. A pretty good stout with an odd, vegetal sourness in the finish that throws me. | 3.8 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 16/20 | Aug 9, 2008 12oz bottle thanks to MrChopin. Pours black with a brown head. Nose is of chocolate, fruity and roasty malt. Taste is of chocolate and coffee; some ash. Mouthfeel is medium-to-thin and smooth. Thinner than I would like from an Imperial Stout. Not bad though. | 3.7 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 4/5 | 15/20 | Aug 8, 2008 Thanks to Juancho. Drank it in Panajachel, Guatemala. Classic Dry Stout. Pours a very dark brown, with a nice tan head. Light bodied, dry, ashy and smoky. Not my favorite type of Stout, but excellent nonetheless. AR (422), Georgia, USA
| 3.3 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 4/5 | 6/10 | 3/5 | 14/20 | Aug 7, 2008 This is a very dark pour with a quickly disipitating brown head. . The beer has a medium mouthfeel. Flavor is a dark chocolate and brown sugar. Not as overwhelming as some imperial stouts. Tejas (695), Dallas, Texas, USA
| 3.6 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 3/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 16/20 | Aug 7, 2008 Well, this was good but not a 96 good. I did really like that it was only 8%. Sort of tired of huge ABV imp stouts that pretty much finish me for the night. Fruity nose and really roasty flavors. Not much head which was disappointing. Palate was a tad thin. nuplastikk (1167), Madison, Wisconsin, USA
| 3.9 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 3/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 17/20 | Aug 3, 2008 12oz bottle aged a little over a year in the closet. Pitch black color. Aroma is still roasty and pleasant. The taste is chocolaty and smooth, with a nice hop taste mid sip that fades again to cocoa water. The alcohol is very well covered by all thick malt profile. Creamier and more mellow than a typical Imperial Stout. Great beer. mesperon (134), Jersey City, New Jersey, USA
| 3.3 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 5/5 | 6/10 | 3/5 | 12/20 | Aug 1, 2008 Dark root beer brown, wth big dark brown head. Aroma is full of coffee, toffee, acidic and roasty. Palate is thin and a little fizzy. Bitterness ites the tongue first then opens to roasted malt, light coffee, slightly sweet, chocolate, and a little acidic bitterness. Flavor isnot as big as the beer looks. Finishes with a touch of bitterness, and goes down with a warming alcohol. darn1207 (543), Tallahassee, Florida, USA
| 3.7 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 3/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 16/20 | Jul 29, 2008 12oz bottle. dark pour with small to medium tan head. aroma of raisins, prunes, chocolate and molasses. the flavor follows form with dark fruits, roasted malts, caramel and brown sugar. nice balance with the bitter hop finish. coffee flavor seemed to come out as it warmed. the palate is thinner than most imp stouts I’ve had - not necessarily a negative, just different. good overall.
