Alldaydrinker (557), Norwood, Massachusetts, USA Mar 18, 2008 12 oz bottle, label states Imperial stout. VINTAGE 2000 Poured into a snifter with dark brown opaque color and a small creamy tan head. Strong and robust aroma from opening the bottle. Nose upfront smells like a rich, vintage red wine, tannins are very apparent. The next layer of the nose is cocoa powder, coffee and hazlenut. With a background characteristics of rum, wow is this complex. Initial mouthfeel is thinner than expected with a light to medium body. Taste is slight vinous up front with displays of that red wine characterisitics, tons of cocoa powder that coats the mouth. Mid plate moves out the vinous to a more of a sour lactic and mild nuts. Finishing with a nice warming of the stomach, cocoa powder continuing through and minor fruit notes. Mild hops try regain their power but hardly make it through for a quick couple second flash. Palate duration above average. Minor head retention and lacing of the glass which is understandable. I would say a little too long in the bottle, but definitely complex and easy drinking. Was a real pleasure. DandyWolfFloyd (331), Jim Thorpe, Pennsylvania, USA Mar 11, 2008 This is a beer in a class of it’s own. It is delightfully aromatic with roasty notes, malty notes and some hops. It’s appearance is consistent with the stout field. It’s flavor is extremely complex. It is firstmost smokey with notes of malt, hops, perhaps some chocolate, and maybe even coffee bean. It’s a huge beer in terms of complexity and strength. A great stout. railcat1 (578), Orlando, Florida, USA Mar 10, 2008 This was a nice IPS with alot of malts and a nice hop kick to it,with hints of coffee and chocolate and as it warms the alcohol comes out which was surprising as the abv is only 8.2%,the finish is thick and sweet and wonderful.CHEERS! Collint (450), Sylva, North Carolina, USA Mar 7, 2008 12 oz bottle. Color is dark solid black. Aroma of sweet malt. Flavor is sweet roasty and a bitter finish. Notes of coffee. Very Very nice, would drink again. TikiE (360), Sylva, North Carolina, USA Mar 7, 2008 Wow great stout! Pours a dark oil color with a head that quckley fanishes to a lacing. Tastes of roasted malts and chocolate. MMMMMMM! MrBunn (1518), Western, Pennsylvania, USA Mar 6, 2008 Bottle. Body is a thick and blackish brown with a little bit of a tan head. By the time I’m finished waiting for it to warm slightly there is just a thin film on the surface. Aromas are roasted grain and chocolate with anise and a little bit of a dusty characteristic. Flavor is wonderful up front with all of that roasted grain and chocolate goodness, but rather than continuing to develop it kind of falls flat and just ends up with more of the same. Almost thin and watery (at least conisdering the genre) at the end of the finish. rlgk (3377), Vårgårda, Sweden Mar 3, 2008 Bottle at The Peculiar, Bleeker Street, NYC. Pitch black. Chocolate and cocoa aroma, vinous, some licorice, milky notes, some spices and still smooth. Malty, milky licorice flavor, oat, viol and chocolate, vinous and with some dry bitterness. Frauditor (148), Hagerstown, Maryland, USA Feb 22, 2008 pours dark with barely any foam. smells sweet and dried fruits. taste like coffee, choco, and slight hops. good abv - well hidden.
