Commercial Description:
Formerly Weyerbacher Imperial Stout.
Rich, velvety and deliciously complex, Weyerbacher Imperial Stout is a truly distinctive winter warmer. We use seven types of malt and two varieties of hops to bring forth this big brew. Quite robust and roasty on the palate, Weyerbacher Imperial Stout has a wonderfully fruity nose and a moderately dry finish. The taste is highly complex- perhaps you'll even discern notes of expresso or chocolate.

Pours black with a decent light brown head. Aroma of minty dark fruits and roastiness. Perhaps some peppermint candy? Has a malty coffee flavor. Surprisingly thin and smooth, but 8.2% is hard to detect. Lingering coffee finish. Good stuff.

Bottle poured black with a nice thick, creamy, frothy brown head and thick lacing. Aroma and flavor of burnt roasty malts, chocolate, coffee and tobacco. Alcohol is very well hidden and flavor lays on palate long after beer is finished

Pure black color with a reddish brown head and smells of dark chocolate and alcohol. I couldn’t pull a pronounced flavor besides the alcohol. Only my second ImpS so it’s hard to get used to the alcohol but it is still fairly smooth.

12oz bottle eaglesfan538 got for me. Sweet tobacco aroma. Black body with tan head and decent lacing. Sweet tobacco flavor with some chocolate presence. Leaves a leaf chew and dry coco aftertaste on palate.

Bottle. The aroma was like a sweet stout, very creamy, but with more pronounced malt/alcohol. The flavor was pretty much the same with hints of coffee in the finish; sweeter and lighter than most other imperials.

I should not have had the Heresy prior to this one.....what the hell was I thinking? I did "cleanse" my palate fist, but I couldn’t cleanse my soul of the Heresy. This was still almost as smooth, not quite as creamy but lacking in the flavors(compared to Heresy). I hate to say it, but light, and fluffy come to mind here instead of deep dark, bitter, thickness. hmmm. Not bad, should probably try again on it’s own, but that will be very hard to do as long as there’s Heresy in my house.

12 oz. bottle, sampled next to Heresy. Poured black with voluminous tan head. Much more than I was expecting based on past reviews. On first whiff I caught more dark fruit aromas than anything else. About 15-20 minutes later, the chocolate and coffee aromas became dominant. Upon tasting at first, again dominated by fruitiness, which I found rather odd. Later on the chocolate and coffee notes appeared, but not as much as I would’ve liked. At least the finish had the impy flavors I was looking for, but I think it was too little too late for this one. Mouthfeel wasn’t all that thick. I suppose I could give Weyerbacher credit for doing something a little different, but I really wanted some impiness from an imperial stout.

12 oz bottle thanks to my SS. Sampled this next to Heresy. Black in appearance with a tan ring of a head. Chocolate aromas, light raisins and fruit. Light bodied with chocolate molasses some bitter roasted flavors and lightly sweet. A lot more flat than its older brother but still decent and drinkable.
