Commercial Description:
Formerly Weyerbacher Imperial Stout.
Rich, velvety and deliciously complex, Weyerbacher Imperial Stout is a truly distinctive winter warmer. We use seven types of malt and two varieties of hops to bring forth this big brew. Quite robust and roasty on the palate, Weyerbacher Imperial Stout has a wonderfully fruity nose and a moderately dry finish. The taste is highly complex- perhaps you'll even discern notes of expresso or chocolate.

12oz bottle. Aroma: Rich malt sweetness with notes of chocolate, raisins, vanilla, bread dough, and anise. Appearance: Dark oily pour. Dark tan head was full and creamy with good retention. Good lacing. Flavor: Caramel, coffee, chocolate, smoke, anise. Medium dry finish. Bitterness seemed a little harsh. Palate: Medium-full bodied and a little watery. Medium-carbonation. Light alcohol warming in back of mouth. Some astringency on the tongue. Overall: Started off really good with the Aroma and Appearance, but the Flavor and Palate just weren’t up to par. Flavors seemed a little dull. Bitterness was harsh and astringent. Mouthfeel was thin and watery (for the style) and carbonation was to high. Kind of a mess, and I wouldn’t recommend this to anyone.

A maelstrom of flavors. While the base for their Heresy a totally separate experience. Hops are present but secondary to the malts and smoooth creamy finish. Must try warmer.

Bottle from shigadeyo, Thanks, Craig! Most of the same goodness found in their Heresy Stout, except their isn’t the vanilla and oak to support the roasty and chocolate notes. Still, not a bad beer at all!

Roasted nut molasses and chocolate aromas. Smells better than it tastes. Muted molasses and chocolate flavors. Could be a touch more sweet.

12-oz., courtesy the kind hospitality of BitBucket. Pours deep black with a big thick moussy tan head. Big fruity nose, especially apples and figs. (!) Big forward tall-body, active-carb attack. Lots of deep flavors, the fruit and biscuit caramel business is a great combination and makes this one stand out a bit from the pack of impys. Clean finish. Really nice stuff.

The color was thin and a dark chocolate. The head was barely there. It ewas deep tan and disappeared quickly. The aroma was alcohol, malt, roats, coffee/chocolate, and mabe some spice. The flavor was roasty, malty, but there wasn’t as much as an alcohol taste as I expected. I thought that it was a little lacking in the flavor department. The palate was carbonated and a little harsh. The finish was slightly warm and didn’t last very long.

Ok, this is on the low end of imperial stouts (down there with Sam Smith’s) but still a good beer. Comes out of the bottle black, but leaves a little to the imagination. Seems like it could be thicker? The head is around just long enough for you to realize its brown. The aroma is nice, sweet and sharp, some coffee, maybe soy sauce, slight alcohol, and a roasty character. The aroma is almost up to par with other impy’s. The flavor is a tad thin, seems to be missing a level or two of complexity. There is a roasted character, some coffee, and maybe some alcohol, although it doesn’t show itself much. The palate is a little lacking with a little more carbonation than I planned on. The finish provides some warmth, but again not as much as I would expect. Overall, a valiant attempt at a wonderful style, but it remains tjust that, an attempt. It needs a level or two more of complexity in all of the above mentioned categories to make it great. Definitely worthy buying/drinking, just don’t wet your pants over it.

Bottle, poured a opaque black with a thick tan head. Looks fantastic. Big roasty aroma, molasses, dark chocolate. Smooth flavor, a little disappointing compared to its awesome appearance and big aroma. Typical roasted flavor, not much depth or complexity. Slight alcohol warming in the back of the throat. Medium to almost a thin mouthfeel for the style and an ordinary finish. Nice Impy Stout, but a let down compared to its appearance and aroma.
