Black colour with a brown head. Sweet chocolatey nose, with notes of menthol. There is an ice-cream feel to the aroma really. Pleasantly sweetish, raisin is there, fresh feel to the beer all in all. Chocolate ice-cream. Light coffee notes. Bitter finish. Very straight forward Imperial Stout, nevertheless very yummy. YourDarkLord (1800), Urbana, Illinois, USA

Aroma held notes of coffee, chocolate, anise, cherries. There was a bit too much carbonation for me. I like my stouts to be still, thick, oily. This was not. The flavor was good. Roasted coffee sweetened with chocolate and that hint of fruit in the back. Weyerbacher has often impressed and this is yet another impressive brew.

| 3.2 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 3/5 | 6/10 | 3/5 | 13/20 | Jul 3, 2006 This one was slightly dissapointing. The Old Heathen isn’t a bad stout, but it doesn’t measure up the other Weyerbacher products that I have really enjoyed. The pour is black, with a tan head that dissipates rather quickly. The aroma is fairly hoppy with roasted malts in there as well. The taste is thin for an impy. The flavors are of roasted malt, coffee, and what I would say is a yeasty type of taste--especially once it has a chance to warm a little. Drinkable? Definitely, but not my first pick at the store."

| 4.2 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 4/5 | 9/10 | 4/5 | 17/20 | Jun 29, 2006 Oaky, fruity, malt aroma, with some choclate and alcohol overtones, dark brown black color, chocolate cake and coffee taste, ok maybe with some raisins in the cake, some hop flavor evident, definite hop bitterness, high carbonation give it a slightly thin mouthfeel, but still a wonderful Imperial NachlamSie (1637), Tennessee, USA
| 3.9 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 5/5 | 8/10 | 3/5 | 16/20 | Jun 28, 2006 bottle. Pours stark black in any reasonable light with a dark tan, firm head. The aroma is bittersweet of smoked hickory, espresso (btw, the misspelling in the official description here really bothers me) thin caramel, and more robust chocolate. This is a very dense brew. It’s powerfully similar to that smoky, caramelly flavor of espresso with a coating wall of dark mocha. The aftertaste is quite nutty, reminiscent perhaps of almonds. There are mild fruitier notes trying to penetrate, but they aren’t strong enough for me to really evaluate them. This is a highly pleasing brew. hophead75 (1954), Boonton, New Jersey, USA

Taste is about the same, slightly bitter throughout the pallet.... gputty (456), Virgina Beach, Virginia, USA
| 3.6 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 4/5 | 6/10 | 3/5 | 15/20 | Jun 22, 2006 From bottle. Pours black with creamy coffee head. Nose is bitter coffee, a sour vinousness, and hints of chocolate. Flavor has a bitter grapefruit component up front, moving into a coffee and lemon finish. Somewhat sour overall. Seems like the hops were overdone on this one, but still an interesting brew. AlKHall (161), West Hartford, Connecticut, USA
