Lowe1983 (1029), Fairborn, Ohio, USA Feb 12, 2006 Pours a black color with thin darker brown head. Aroma is of chocolate, coffee, and roasted malts with a slight hint of alcohol. Flavor starts off sweet and malty with undertones of chocolate and coffee. Finishes with roasted malts and a slight hint of alcohol. Very good brew. IndianaRed (1553), Boise, Idaho, USA Feb 8, 2006 Bottle Pours a thick black with a small dark tan head. Nice heavy lacing. Aromas of dark roasted goodness, plenty of sweet prunes, purple grapes vanilla, and brown sugar. Flavor is a mote straight forward smokey roasted campfire flavors. Some of the dark fruitiness comes through a bit but then is taken over by the "last nights camp fire" Knd of like biting of that roasted marshmallow that got a little too close to the coals. Thick rich feel and not very bitter for the style. Contra (30), USA Feb 3, 2006 Nearly identical to their Raspberry Imperial Stout, without the raspberry undertones, of course. I prefer the Raspberry, but it’s a matter of personal choice. A very solid beer in all reguards; an almost criminson brown apperance, with a coco-butter flavor. Highly recommended. beervana (781), Libertyville, Illinois, USA Feb 1, 2006 (01.31.06) 12 oz brown bottle obtained from trade with Thaichile. Black hued stout having a long lasting creamy brown head. No discernable carbonation. Roasted malt, smoke, chocolate and coffee aromas. Full bodied stout that starts with light sweet malt and roasted malt/expresso flavors. Bitterness develops in the middle. Finishes dry with light lingering bitterness and roasted malt flavor. Smooth and creamy. Quite good. Thanks Thaichile! Ughsmash (3978), Waukesha, Wisconsin, USA Jan 23, 2006 Bottle thanks to kramer17801! Poured a beautiful, viscous black with a solid cap of caramel head. Nose of roasty espresso, baker’s chocolate, and deeply-rooted licorice undertones... intriguing and enticing. Flavor takes a minor step back... all aroma notes remained, but not as potent or striking as the aroma. Don’t get me wrong... t’was very good, still. Light-bodied for the style, and damn did it go down easily! Smooth across the palate with coffee bitters on the roof and at the finish. Excellent brew! BrockLanders (747), Panama City, Florida, USA Jan 21, 2006 Bottle from Degarth....very dark brown-black pour with a decent sized dark tan head. Big roasty sweet malt nose, choco-malts are big. Nice lightly bitter roasty flavor...more cocoa-ish notes too. I wish it was a bit fuller in the mouthfeel, but still very nice indeed. A very nice IS. Thanks Joe! adrian910ss (1394), philadelphia, Pennsylvania, USA Jan 21, 2006 Pours a pitch black color with a medium sized creamy brown beige head. Aroma is of dark rich chocolate, malts and roasted coffee beans. Flavor is of dark unsweetened chocolate, dark fruits, malts and a bitter coffee. Alcohol is slightly detected in flavor and aroma. Very good but lacking that rich taste the separates the better imperial stouts from this one. Styles (1653), Lincoln Park, Michigan, USA Jan 19, 2006 Bottle courtesy of kramer17801. Black with decent beige head, looks rather watered down, before I even take a sip. Initial aroma rather sweet, decent malt presence with faint milk chocolate. Flavor starts off the as aroma would indicate, with some dark fruit notes and all coffee in the finish. Little surprised by this average, to say the least.
