walter (359), Staunton, Virginia, USA Oct 26, 2005 Draft, Baja Bean, Staunton VA. Black, thinning to reddish brown at the edges, with slight brown head. Nose is surprisingly subdued both for the style and the flavor. Faint roasted malt, coffee, dry alcohol astringency, and dark fruit. Flavor delivers on all of these, with a nice focus on roasted barley and chocolate malt sweetness. Body is a bit light for my imp stout tastes, but medium and mouth-filling nonetheless. Discernible hop bitterness and slightly chalky on the finish. An enjoyable stout, though a bit light overall for a big ol’ Imperial. Fantomas23 (463), Pewaukee, Wisconsin, USA Oct 26, 2005 Updated: Jan 9, 2007Exceedingly dark beer. Cocoa-colored head that doesn’t last long. I smell chocolate covered fruit, maybe cherries or raspberries (which makes the Raspberry Imperial Stout a natural progression). Not as thick as I was expection, which isn’t necessarily unpleasant. Still hearty enough to cover the palate. Fantastic with a rich, moist brownie - brings out the coffee/espresso notes. No need to wait until winter to enjoy this warmer. puzzl (2579), New York, New York, USA Oct 25, 2005 Very dissappointing IS. Aroma is quite nice, with lots of chocolate, cherry, coffee, plum, malts, and a nice black pour with a touch of head, but the palate is very thin, and taste is a bit foul. There is some roasty coffee in it, but the taste comes across more like a dunkel almost, with that vegetabely taste. Not what I was hoping for at all. radagast83 (1272), Fairfax, Virginia, USA Oct 24, 2005 Rich flavors are found in this drink. Roasted malt flavor, with chocolate and coffee within. Slight hint of the hops. A nice full flavor. OhioDad (2491), Hilliard, Ohio, USA Oct 23, 2005 12oz bottle via trade with Lou18 - Thanks Lou - Pours Black with a thick creamy mocha head that stays well and laces pretty well too. Aroma of chocolate, coffee, plums, raisin, and some roasted malts. Flavor is nice toasty malts, coffee bitters, a bit of chocolate, some raisins. All blended together with a brief hop finish. Palate is full bodied yet airy for an impy stout. Smooth to drink and creamy. Pretty good stout. Enjoyable! Mangino (1027), Mississippi, USA Oct 19, 2005 Pours a dark brown, small white head. ARoma is chocolate, lots of over roasted malt. Flavor is plastic, coffee and chocolate. Dry finish. heemer77 (4294), Savannah, Missouri, USA Oct 17, 2005 The dark purple and black body sticks well to the side of the glass. There is almost no head. The aroma is coffee and sweat along with some stale old chocolate. The taste has caramel and salty sweat. There is also some roasted peanuts. This one missed with me. DavidP (1743), Milwaukee, Wisconsin, USA Oct 16, 2005 Smokey, chocolatey aroma with brown sugar and sweet barley malt. The flavor is quite roasty with some smoked fish elements and dark chocolate. Bit of tartness in the finish. A smokey, roasty big dry stout. Good stuff!
