Inky black pour with creamy off white head. Unique aroma; sweet bread, alcohol, dark fruit, smoke, and dark chocolate. Big body, creamy mouthfeel. Chocolate and roasty malts through the finish. No bitterness, and really enjoyable to drink.

2.5 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 5/10 PALATE 2/5 OVERALL 6/20
Let me preface this by saying this is a bottle I've cellared since 08 so it's got about 5 years on it. I'll rerate when I can find a fresh bottle.
Pours a deathly black. No head or lacing. Fine smell of cocoa and bitter espresso. Mouthfeel is very thin and no carb. Age. Taste is very oxidized. Age. Little chocolate dark fruit and milk chocolate. Meh. Pretty lousy. Tastes like flat Coke.

3.8 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 17/20
Bottle, from De Hopduvel in Ghent. A pretty old bottle it seems.
Pours a completely opaque black, with a small, quite pale and detailed head.
Aroma: chocolate and caramel, with some subdued roasty and herbal notes.
Taste: Very smooth. Smooth milk chocolate, smooth cocoa, smooth coffee. Everything is quite sweet (but in moderation), and makes me think of a nice chocolate cheese cake. Finish, on the other hand, is somewhat unexpected - predominantely herbal, with bitterness reminiscent of sage and gum-tree. All in all - an intersting mix.
Overall: A very nice beer. A great companion for a stormy night in Rotterdam.

3.2 AROMA 5/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 2/5 OVERALL 15/20
Pours black with a nice two finger mocha colored head. The aroma is a bit faint. Maybe some oxidization...some soy sauce, slight grain, slight dark fruit, maybe a hint of coffee or chocolate. Some decent carbonation, muted flavors up front. Middle of the palate is some slight chocolate/bittersweet chocolate. Maybe some hop bitterness with carbonation on the back end. Chocolate comes back in in the finish with some slight alcohol warming. Medium Full body. Average

4.1 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 18/20
From cask: very smooth, but the vanilla after taste hung in the mouth a little longer than I would have liked. Overall very drinkable with a light aroma and taste (for a stout).

2.4 AROMA 4/10 APPEARANCE 2/5 TASTE 4/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 11/20
Smells a bit oxidized. Thin body; blackened malts and a bit roasty, yet doesn't grab me in any way. Little high in booze. Bad.
