Commercial Description:
Formerly Weyerbacher Imperial Stout.
Rich, velvety and deliciously complex, Weyerbacher Imperial Stout is a truly distinctive winter warmer. We use seven types of malt and two varieties of hops to bring forth this big brew. Quite robust and roasty on the palate, Weyerbacher Imperial Stout has a wonderfully fruity nose and a moderately dry finish. The taste is highly complex- perhaps you'll even discern notes of expresso or chocolate.

Sampled at From The Vine monthly beer tasting Aug 4th, 2003: Pours a nice thick dark borwn with a medium dark beige head. Aroma of malt, chocolate, coffee and oats. The body is not as big and bold as I like in an Imperial Stout but it is still good. Basically all the things I love about the flavor of this style - Roasty malt, caramel, alcohol, chocolate and coffee - are all here but in less quantity than the greats like Dark Lord, Siberian Night Rasputin and Stone. The finish is a little hoppier than those too. This beer is on the verge of being an excellent example of the style. A little more richness and complexity and it will be there.

Huge head of large dark brown bubbles. Raisins, roasted grains, a bit of coffee and a little bit of a fruity aroma are present. Color is black. Flavor is nice and rich with coffee, oats, charcoal and a big helping of smoke. Nice touch to the flavor. Finish is dry and smoky with a distinct coffee aftertaste. A very good imperial stout that has a lot of layers like an Oger and parfait. Ha Ha.

Bottle. Poured dark sable, opaque and thick with a large brown head that lingered delightfully. Aroma is burnt malts, coffee, bitter chocolate, hints of cherries, and figs. Flavor is both cloyingly sweet and sharply bitter - nicely balanced with a strong alcohol warming and mildly astringent, charcoal finish. Thick body, lightly carbonated. Nice Imperial Stout - my only objection is the "Old" in the name for a stout rather than a barley wine. But I guess I'm just being a fuddy-duddy traditionalist...

Horribly, terribly, thoroughly deep black, with a tall, fluffy, richly roasted tannish mess of foam up on top. Aroma: stands up on top, proud and tall, big licorice, dark rum, molasses, but a tad cola-ish, creamy, rife with espresso tinges, chocolate dribbles, bitter-yet-sweet, with little fruit appearances, as well. Taste: highly carbonated from the start, a huge effervescence from the start, largely cola-ish, again, with a significant fruity aspect, ably matched with tastes of cocoa. Big ol’ liquory chocolatey milkshake, here, folks. Full-bodied, nice, medium finish, huge, thick maltiness...all-around, a very nice stout to battle off this horrid mid-December Mid-western weather. originally tasted 12-18-03

Bottle via Secret Santa. Pours opaque with a small frothy tan head and lined lacing. Dark chocolate roasted caramel and chocolate malt with raisins and plum, hint of oak and port, cocoa and molasses, with a yeast nose. Yeast (leather, sweat) silky dark chocolate dark roasted malt, slightly bitter and acidic, with chocolate fruity notes. Silky and full bodied palate, dark.

Superior brew; stellar balance and on of the most "drinkable" impy stouts yet; some cherry, oak and coffee notes. Great.
