Commercial Description:
Formerly Weyerbacher Imperial Stout.
Rich, velvety and deliciously complex, Weyerbacher Imperial Stout is a truly distinctive winter warmer. We use seven types of malt and two varieties of hops to bring forth this big brew. Quite robust and roasty on the palate, Weyerbacher Imperial Stout has a wonderfully fruity nose and a moderately dry finish. The taste is highly complex- perhaps you'll even discern notes of expresso or chocolate.

Side by side tasting vs. Heresy.

Poured black with a creamy light tan head. Aroma is of bittersweet chocolate, butter, and a touch of rum. Taste is of sweet chocolate and coffee with only the slightest touch of alcohol. Not too much bitterness. Taste and body could be thicker but otherwise a very enjoyable stout.

As compared to Heresy, I liked Old Heathen better, though admittedly not by much. Old Heathen has straight-up sweet stout flavors, while Heresy’s flavor and aroma is partially masked by an alcoholic whiskey character. I can see why people might like one or the other for different reasons, though.

That’s a very good beer, even though it doesn’t feel like an imperial stout. Black with a huge brown head. Aroma of coffee, chocolate, vanilla, caramel and some spices. Very flavorful: starts with chocolate and coffee, some roasted malts and a hint of rum. Touch of hops on the finish with a clean smooth feeling. Finish is slightly dry, not too bitter, lasts for a while. Nice sticky texture and a plesant warming sensation.

(01.31.06) 12 oz brown bottle obtained from trade with Thaichile. Black hued stout having a long lasting creamy brown head. No discernable carbonation. Roasted malt, smoke, chocolate and coffee aromas. Full bodied stout that starts with light sweet malt and roasted malt/expresso flavors. Bitterness develops in the middle. Finishes dry with light lingering bitterness and roasted malt flavor. Smooth and creamy. Quite good. Thanks Thaichile!

Black as coal with the smell of dark chocolate and roasted malts. This beer was very good. The taste was very creamy with just the right amount of hop flavor. Texture was very smooth with a nice roasted malt finish.

Bottle. Pours a dark brown, almost black, very nice brown head. Aroma is chocolate and malt. Flavor is again chocolate, with some roasted coffee and malt. A nice and easy stout that doesn’t clobber you over the head, very drinkable.

12 oz. bottle - purchased at Oliver’s in Albany; pours creamy black with thin tan head; roasty, chocolate and alcohol obvious on the nose; drinks very strong and slight creamy body; a little on the thin side, but pretty damn good

500th rating. Bottle, courtesy Tony at Oldsmar Tap House. Pours black, with plenty of sticky lacing, and a dark creamy head. Roasted notes in the nose, caramel, raisin, some grape and chocolate. Flavor has big roasted coffee, caramel, raisin. Tons of complex hops in the finish. A fairly light imperial stout. Pretty refreshing, crisp and drinkable.
