Pretty rich smelling with a big dark malt presence. The flavor is big on the chcolate and roastiness. Very thick and rich palate, with really not much bitterness in the finish nor in the aftertaste. Seems to be balanced pretty well, although it had a little sweet tartness to it towards the end that seemed somewhat out of place. Pretty good though overall. I hadn’t had a real impy stout in about a month so this was amazing, but after getting back into drinking the style its still good, but not the 4.4 that I had down originally.
pours dark black with small tan head. Aroma is lot too strong but does exhibit chocolate and coffee with a hop back drop. flavor is smokey with some chocolate and coffee, and carmel notes... good but not great. smooth palate. Bottles pours a very dark blackish brown thick pour with red grape juice hints and a bigger than moderate brown heade that begins to dissipate, but cakes largely. Laces well. Aromas are a nice combination of roast, creamy chocolate and caramel, mixed with a touch of hot booziness, coffee cake, and light vanilla. Initial is moderate in body for the style, picking up some good roast, coffee, chocolate, caramel and vanilla completing the "sundae" effect. There is some warming booze, but nothing too rough. The bittering roast and coffee (which didn’t make much of an appearance in teh nose) is strong, sustained, yet not overpowering. Dark fruits and smoke make a bit of an appearance further into the body. Very good all around, just lacking stand out qualities or a defining factor. Cheers! sebletitje (2000), Tampa, Florida, USA
