santos999 (318), Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, USA Apr 30, 2008 Pours pitch black with a creamy chocolate head. Dark, rich malty aroma with vinous, chocolate, espresso, and caramel notes. The taste is very strong on the chocolate and roasted malts, without being overbearingly burnt tasting. Espresso, cocoa, and dark fruit background. Long, roasty finish. The mouthfeel is full, rich, slick, and oily. You know you’re drinking a stout with this beast.
BroSpud (586), , Massachusetts, USA Nov 4, 2009 12oz bottle. Pours black.Tastes of molasses and pepper. Alcohol taste is not as well masked as many of the other impys with similar abv. BrianDorry55 (117), Spring Hill, Florida, USA Nov 4, 2009 12oz bottle from Trinity (Warehouse) Liquors. Pours almost black transparent with a minimal tan head. Fantastic aroma; sweet candy malts and dark fruits. Flavor is slightly burnt coffee, dark fruits, and a tad of mollasses. Thick mouthfeel, smooth, and warming on the palate. Realliy nice impy...underrated in my opinion. Cakes (35), New Bloomfield, Pennsylvania, USA Oct 29, 2009 Pours very dark.
Looks like used motor oil!
A significant frothy brown head.
Beefy, but not too thick.
For a stout - a rather subtle aroma - not overpowering,.
I want to call this a "refined beer".
Cletus (5004), Connecticut, USA Oct 24, 2009 Pours dark brown with a tan head. Smells of roasted malt, some vinous hints, sweet. Tastes sweet and roasty with some peppery splashes. beernovice39 (244), South Carolina, USA Oct 16, 2009 Sweet malty smell. Dark brownish pour. Taste is a tad sweet and crisp....not something I will drink again...not what I look for in a stout. Rustyham (552), miami, Florida, USA Oct 11, 2009 Fanatstic aroma of cofee, dark malts, and cofee. The pour looks a lit like a nitro guinness too. Unfortunately, the palate is a lot like a nitro also. It’s thin and watery. The flaovr is subdued, also. This beer is all in the aroma. Bottle from Knightly Spirits in Orlando. Snojerk321 (1924), San Diego, California, USA Oct 11, 2009 12oz bottle from 2005. Pours a very dark brown with ruby highlights, and a quickly receding thin tannish head. Nose is like a chocolate malt shake, sweet and decadent, with perhaps a shade of darker raisiny fruit and some oatmeal cookie malt body. A little thin but smooth on the palate, with strong smoky tones, a little like worcestershire sauce, perhaps some tobacco, very slight minty hop presence commingling with the roasted coffee bean and vanilla finish. Not a bad stout, but not a really great one.
