UPDATED: MAR 3, 2009 Location: Picked up a four pack of12 oz. bottles at Gilly’s
Aroma: Fruity aroma
Appearance: Faint head
Flavor: Well hidden alcohol for a 12%er...almost too well.
Palate: Full body
Overall Impression:
Really enjoyable American take on the classic Belgian style. The guys at Weyerbacher do a really nice job with the high ABV styles (DIPA, Quad, Barley Wine, etc).

I sampled this one on draft at Redlight. Pours a nice reddish-amber color with an off-white head. A little head retention and spotty lacing. Lots of dark fruits with this one, a lot of plums and raisins and a spicy alcoholic tang to it with a dash of brown sugar. A pretty nice sipper.
3.4 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 14/20 Ughsmash (5631) - Waukesha, Wisconsin, USA - FEB 18, 2009
Bottled. Poured slightly hazy medium orange with a light dusting of white head. The aroma was very sweet, very strong, and very fruity with banana Runts and redder fruits taking charge.. warm spices and apparent alcohol, but just in warmth as the sweetness held it in check. The flavor opened with light sour green apple, opening into a zesty spice and sweet banana core.. green raisins and figs showed on the back with rising alcohol warmth as it approached room temp.. heat and sweet banana rode out the long finish. Medium-plus bodied and certainly engaging on the palate with lots of spices and plenty of heat.. solid drinker, but could have used some subtlety.

Dangerous to drink with the almost 12% abv.
3.4 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 15/20 timbeer (66) - Rosemount, Minnesota, USA - FEB 15, 2009
Bottle shared with MatSciGuy. Pours a hazy brown with little to no head. Caramel, butterscotch and alcohol notes. Mildly bitter but not much for hop flavor. Smooth and heavy on the tongue.
3.1 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 13/20 Beerlando (3276) - Orlando, Florida, USA - FEB 7, 2009
Pours a clear, dark mauve color with a small, dissipating, off-white head. Virtually zero lacing noted. The nose is sweet and alcoholic, with notes of dark candy sugar, stewed figs, raisin, and some tart cherry showing with liquor-like potency. A deep inhale reveals some plastic, medicinal notes that are simply off-putting. Flavors follow suit, overly alcoholic, overly sweet, and entirely too forceful. Dates and figs are accompanied by earthy, peppery spice, with notes of bready yeast, candy sugar, and rum cake. The mouthfeel is lightly syrupy, with lively carbonation and a hot, boozy finish. I think it’s hard to do a smooth, easy going quad and still maintain some fruity complexity. Unfortunately, like so many others, this one is way off base from the best of the genre.
3.6 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 15/20 MatSciGuy (866) - Minneapolis, Minnesota, USA - FEB 5, 2009
[Bottle] Pours a cloudy brown with a small beige head. Aroma is a little bit of alcohol, figs, raisins, caramel, and a touch of butterscotch. Flavor matches well, and the alcohol is completely hidden. It lacks the depth of flavors of the Trappist quads, but is still pretty good. Somewhat rich mouthfeel, but needs more carbonation.
