3.7 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 15/20 Chipalsa (482) - Florida, USA - MAY 4, 2011
A nice bottle pour into a trappist glass. The head was thin and white, while the lacing darkened up a bit and left trails in the glass. As for color, it was a rusty brown, and just a little hazy so the bubbles were barely visible. Aromatic... this beer was weak. This quad smelled great however, some sweet malts, raisins, and cinnamon. The flavor went together well with the scent, tasting of dark fruits and sweet malts, with a hint of cinnamon that helped the finish with the warmth of alcohol. This quad was great, but doesn’t stand too well next to others that have more sophisticated and complex flavors/aromas.

Bottle thanks to ChrisPro in Blind BIF 4. Served in a tulip.
Pours a dark copper color with a bit of a reddish hue. Off-white head forms but then falls fairly quickly. Some spotty lacing remains on the sides of the glass and there’s a thick collar. Some bubbles on top. Nose brings forward some light clove character along with bread crust. A bit of sweetness and dark fruits there as well. Taste is quite nice with some sweetness coming through along with a bit of booze. Some light spice as well as dark fruits. Some figs and dates there. Mouthfeel is medium with low carbonation. Drinks quite well. Really tasty.

Pour is a light mahogany with a light tan head which quickly dissipates. Aroma is of caramel and dark fruits. Taste is the same, with a slight alcohol twist, but not 11%.

12 ounce bottle into tulip. Pours slightly cloudy red-orange color with a 1.5 finger foamy off white head with decent retention. Very minimal glass lacing. Aromas of cherries, banana, dried fruits, candi sugar, and vanilla; with a bit of spices and alcohol. Taste of banana, dark fruits, candi sugar, and some caramel; with light spices and a bit of bourbon. Very sweet flavor with no bitterness noticed at all. The finish is fairly dry, with only a small bit of lingering sweetness. Incredibly smooth finish with no alcohol noticed except for a slight warming with a light alcohol bite after the finish. I was extremely surprised at the smoothness for it’s alcohol content. Medium carbonation and creamy full body. Overall, this quad was quite impressive, though not very complex, it has a very nice flavor balance with a very smooth drinkability for its alcohol level.

UPDATED: MAR 30, 2011 Pours dark clear copper with a creamy head. Smells of sweet raisins, dates, brown sugar, booze, and cookie dough. Wonderful flavors of those dates and raisins come through nicely. Sweet candied sugars, belgian yeasts, and a warm boozey effect are prevalent in the finish. Oily mouthfeel coats the palate well and delivers full bodied flavors.

It pours a weird tea color with a little white head or carbonation, disappointing look.
The aroma is very quadish with chocolate and raisins dominating.
The taste is very strange not good at all. Weird notes of alcohol.
Mouthfeel is poor and its not drinkable to me.
