3.9 AROMA 9/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20 ross (1874) - weddington, North Carolina, USA - MAY 24, 2006
Bottle with perhaps the worst label I have ever seen on a beer. Its not the design..really...but its the position of the label, it was about to fall off the bottle. Alas, the contents are what is more important. Pours out a dark red color. Smells sweet, fruity, and full of alcohol (I can tell this one is going to be nice). Taste is smooth, and mellow for a beer with almost 12%. The smell is just fabulous, probably alot better than the taste. The alcohol makes this drink almost like a port. A very fine, and possibly underrated beer.
3.3 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 13/20 theacelatrain (262) - Washington DC, USA - MAY 22, 2006
Bottle. Pours reddish chestnut brown with short-lived off-white head. Powerfully sweet, alcoholic aroma of sherry. Flavors are initially of candy with cherry and raisin notes, with decent alcoholic burn. Considerable sourness in the finish, though, along with yeasty notes. Sourness seems to be a product of the alcohol - again, like sherry. Probably would’ve benefited by easing off on the ABV.
3.6 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 14/20 brentfeesh (1179) - Gadsden, Alabama, USA - MAY 4, 2006
Thanks to Springlicker(?) for this. Pours hazy brown with ruby red grapefruit color hints. Light carbonation. The aroma is malty with figs, yeast, spice (cinnamon and clove) and light alcohol. Flavor is initially spicy (clove and something else), a bit yeasty, strong alcohol comes out quickly, and there is a dark fruit hint (like date or fig). Not bad. Heavy, sticky body. I liked this more than other quads I’ve tried as I thought it was closer to a Belgian strong. Not as quad like as the others I’ve tried.
3.5 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 14/20 luckygirl (1221) - Boulder, Colorado, USA - APR 28, 2006
Sampled at 4th Boulder Strong Ale Fest. Beer poured a clear medium brown color with a small, frothy, off-white, mostly and quickly diminishing head. The aroma was a bit shy: malty with light notes of cookie and caramel, moderate notes of toasted grain; hoppy with light notes of resin/pine; light-to-moderate yeast note of cellar; moderate miscellaneous notes of spicy alcohol, banana and clove, light notes of pepper and cardboard, trace note of tropical fruit. The flavor was heavily sweet, lightly acidic, moderately bitter with a long, lightly bittersweet finish. The body is medium-to-full, the texture was velvety, the carbonation was lively and there was a lightly alcoholic and moderately astringent feel.

UPDATED: APR 26, 2006 Bottle sampled with Stegosaurus. Pours a hazy orange copper color with tan head. Aroma of alcohol, caramel malts, and spices. Flavor is butterscotch, sweet, caramel, and alcohol. My favorite weyerbacher brew.
3.8 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 16/20 Murphy (1759) - Fort Collins, Colorado, USA - APR 15, 2006
Thin head, light clear tan body. Aroma is belgian malts. Taste is raisin, candi sugar, alcohol. Slight bittering hops. Hints of diacetyl but not bad at all. Body is slightly viscous, oily. Decent stuff.
2.6 AROMA 5/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 5/10 PALATE 2/5 OVERALL 11/20 bigrond (1216) - factoryville, Pennsylvania, USA - APR 8, 2006
aroma is malty and sweet. color is a deep dark brown leathery look. small off white head. The flavor is all alcohol - it seems to overpower the palate and any flavor. This scored an overall score over 10 because of acl. content
3.6 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 15/20 schoolofspool (24) - Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, USA - APR 7, 2006
[Bottle] Poured into 25cl Trappist. Pours a beautiful hazy dark red/copper tone with a thin antique white head. Nose is sweet and full of malt, alcohol, and peaches are playing the supporting roll. As I take my first sip my tongue is enveloped in a syrupy film, even more so as it warms. Plums, peaches, cherries, and plenty of malt. They are not shy with the alcohol, it’s all over the place here. Sticky, medium bodied mouthfeel with soft-flat carbonation. Surprisingly it cleans up nicely and doesn’t require you to have a glass of water on hand to wash your palate unless you can’t take the alcohol. I don’t mind it so much but it’s something they could work on and round out the beer a bit. Would you like another? No thanks, one will do. Re-rate will be necessary after a round in the cellar.
