COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Rapture is upon us! Itís a 6.7% American Wild Red Ale that has undergone 100% of its fermentation and 18 months of aging in pinot noir wine barrels on a collection of micro flora that has created wonderful flavors of berry fruits, oak and a pronounced, yet quite pleasant tartness. The acidity is rounded out with a muted vinous quality, satisfying maltiness and effervescent mouthfeel that is sure to bring you joyful ecstasy.

Bottle thanks to Tom. Pours a cloudy dark amber with small off white head. The aroma is oak, funk, and berries. Medium mouthfeel with light fruit and wine with light sour finish. Good.

A - pours a sort of honey orange amber with low off white head. S - aromas of caramel, wet musty oak, vinegar, light booze and wine barrel aged goodness. M - medium body with a nice comfortable tartness. Full palate. Rich and tart up front, drier sweeter end. T - tastes follow the nose well, this is a consecration clone. Tart berries, nice wine barrel notes and musty damp oak. O - really quite good. 4.1

In short: An oaky sour-acidic copper ale. Brutal, chaotic, low drinkability.
How: Bottle 750ml corked & caged, consumed when many months of age. Bottle from my man dmac, thanks a lot Dave.
The look: Cloudy rust-color body topped by a small beige head.
In long: Nose is loaded with barrels, awkward oak clashing with sour cherries and burnt orange peels. The beer is aged in pinot noir barrels but somehow it smelled a bit bourbonny to me, but mostly just pure oak. Taste is intense, this is not an easy beer to drink, at least not the batch I had. Sour cherries, a lot of tannins, overwhelming oak, acidity (sensation of alkaline battery on the tongue), dark grapes skin, caramelized almonds, vinegar, dirty funk. The beer is a bit sweet but it goes pretty much unnoticed with the sweetness buried in this avalanche of abrasive flavors. Very active carbonation. This is a very very brutal beer with very low drinkability, after an hour I finally gave up on it and drained poured the rest. Iím puzzled by the mostly good ratings on this thing, there might be big variations between the different vintages. If the actual Rapture is as lame as this beer then Jesus will return to earth to take all the true Christian believers to a continental Sunday brunch buffet before the end of thyme.

Really nice beer, not super sour, tropical and some acidic pineapple type notes.

Pours a red tinged brown with lots of carbonation, but very little head. Smells of tannins, oak and a little tartness. If it werenít for the slight sour note, I would be tricked into thinking Iím smelling a dry medium red wine. Starts off with a little sweet berry flavor. Flavors of the pinot and oak also assert themselves and finishes sublimely tart and dry with some blackberry flavor. A bit of tartness lingers on the tongue. Very light and refreshing with a lot of carbonation. I donít always drink beer, and when I donít itís almost always red wine. This is the perfect combo for me of a good wild ale along with the nice dry finish and tannic flavors I love in red wine. One of the best ones of this style Iíve had.

750 ml bottle shared with a group (Late 2011, from notes). Pours a hazy deep orange amber color with a small off white head. The aroma and flavor have a nice tart character, acidic, berry fruitiness, vinous, woody, hints of cherry and a touch of funk. Very drinkable.

Dark orange pour with a small head. Vinous notes up front, some cherry, maltiness in the background. Sourness is there but certainly not overpowering. Some oak is noticeable as well.

Reddish orange color with an off-white head. Funky aroma with cherry, oak,and berry fruit. Cherry, oak flavor with hint of pinot noir on the back end. Barnyard funk with just enough tartness. Really nice beer!
