3.9 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20
12oz bottle. Oily and moderately thick swirling. Ashy roast and mild, dried raspeberries in the nose, with a perfumy sweet vanilla scent. Rich, sweet, thick, turning to a creamed raspberry and then a raspberry dark chocolate flavor, before drying out in the finish. The malt is rich, with a dry toasted cracker note. Quite good, most likely because the fruit takes a background role. The stout itself is rich, and properly thick and oily. A good dessert beer leaning more towards a sweet imperial stout than a fruit stout. I

Light aroma of berries and malt. Pours dark with nice head. Subtle raspberry taste and finish. No alcohol-ish taste for abv. Overall a great beer. Too good to have been retired.

Bottle at Paul’s tasting. Pours near black with a thin head. Roasted malts, light fruity raspberry, medium sweetness, and a hint of chocolate. I liked this must more than I expected I would.

4 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 17/20
Originally reviewed: 4/29/09. Pours a very thick black with a small tan head on top. No retention and no lacing at all. Smells of dark chocolate, raspberries, strawberry, and dairy sweetness.
Mouthfeel is decent. Some crisp carbonation, but overall pretty smooth. Flavor is full of fruity chocolate. The raspberry is there, but it’s not in your face. Hints of the fruit come through, but it is mostly cocoa and milky sweetness in this one. Decent. I liked this. Recommend.

The last bottle from ’05 or ’06 saved for Birthday week...Rich and dark, initially with a bit of licorice and Robitussin flavor but as it warmed and breathed the Raspberry still came through nicely. Quite warming. I miss this beer. sniff

Bottle (from the november 2005 RB-tasting at Dixens place - notes have been damaged by flooding of my basement, but this was such an insane tasting for me as I was new to such massive tastings, so I gave up on the detailed notes quite early). Raspberries, ripe fruit in both aroma and flavour. All that was readable...

an old vintage of this shared by Jay and Half Time. Thanks! Awesome balance between dark roast and light fruity flavors. I like fruit stouts, and raspberry is a hard one to get right. Nice balance, and complexity.

Yes, I am a fan of fruit beers. This one poured a very dark red colour (opaque black when trying to see through), with a deep tanned head. Aromas were of raspberries (of course) with hints of chocolate, and a creamy nose. Oh yeah ! Tasted very good. Raspberries mixed with coffee. Very well-balanced, and very smooth with a mild bitter/sour aftertaste. Thick mouthfeel. This brew is awesome, just heavy on the alcohol - meaning you can’t drink to many of these in a day. Oh well, there’s always tomorrow !

2005 12oz bottle. Pulled this out of the cellar with a couple of other of Weyerbacher beers. Aroma is raspberry, raspberry, raspberry. Light body for an imperial stout. Lots of raspberry flavor. Some roasted coffee but the raspberry took over this stout after aging for 5 years. Would probably be really good with a dessert.
