iride15 (104), Sanford, Florida, USA Mar 25, 2008 Pours black and a brown head. Aroma of raspberries, chocolate, and coffee. Taste of raspberries, burnt coffee and chocolate. Reminded me a lot of candy, which is not a desirable trait I look for in beer.
chicagodri (419), Chicago, Illinois, USA Jul 8, 2008 Pours a dark brown/black with a nice tan head. Nice coffee, chocolate aroma and flavor, and a hint of raspberry in the flavor as well. Hides the 8% very well. Nice balance and easy to drink. Kind of sweet for an Imperial Stout. gunhaver (541), Tampa, Florida, USA Jun 2, 2008 Updated: Jun 5, 2008Bottle, courtesy Ughsmash I believe. Pours a dark brown color, with a thick cocoa-colored head, and a fair amount of lacing. Chocolate and raspberries in the nose, which means candy corn, too. Some gritty chalkiness, too. Roasted malt flavors, chocolate, coffee. Raspberry comes through big in the finish, which is unique. Caramel is in there somewhere. Balanced well, easy to drink and well-made, although nothing spectacular. Perhaps they weren’t aiming for that. railcat1 (478), Hammond, Indiana, USA May 26, 2008 This was not bad but the rasberrys kinda killed the flavor with hinst of coffee and malts cocoa and it poured with a nice tan head i like my IPS and this was in the cellar for a long time and now i know why not one of my favorites.CHEERS! colemgm8 (347), Alpharetta, Georgia, USA May 25, 2008 bottle. pours a dark black with a bit of a tan head... turns into a nice lacing. aromas of coffee, malts and some chocolate. the Raspberry is just there... not overpowering at all... a nice touch that makes this stout a bit different. Not your typical Imperial Stout... more like a strong sweet stout. medium body with a lot of sweetness and roasted coffee flavored malts. nice beer overall, but not something I’d seek out again. Heathen (455), Riverside, New Jersey, USA May 23, 2008 THOUGHTS: I’m glad this beer is back. This was the beer that changed me from a guy who liked to drink a lot into a true beer geek. After trying it the first time I became concerned about proper glasses and temperatures. It tastes like the raspberry flavored Terry’s Chocolate Oranges. Chocolate goodness with just a hint of raspberry. not very complex and a little one-sided, but when that one side tastes this good I really don’t mind. I had to give it a bonus point for what it has done to change my beer drinking habits.
TECHNICAL: Bottle. Poured a dark brown that looks black in the glass with a small, light brown head that mostly diminished. The aroma was moderate roasted and dark chocolate malt, a hint of raspberry and some alcohol. The initial flavor was lightly sweet and bitter; while the finish was moderately sweet and moderately to heavily bitter with and average duration. The flavor was roasted and chocolate malt then a kiss of raspberry in the finish. There is more raspberry in the flavor than the aroma. The medium to full palate was oily with very lightly fizzy carbonation and a light to moderate alcoholic finish.
