Bottle shared by emacgee. Odd brown/purplish red pour with bubbly head. Muddy and thick looking. Big nose--tons of raspberry as well as oak and vanilla. Earthy, almost syrupy in its taste. As JCB noted, reminiscent of an Oud Bruin, but with load of raspberries added.

Poured a nice ruby red color with a pinkish off white head. Aroma was of lots of sour raspberries, a little funk, tomato juice, and some alcohol. Flavor shows no sign of oak, but is rather mostly sour raspberries, and a strong alcohol finish.

Shared by emacgee - thanks, Ethan! Absolutely massive raspberry nose on this one, very reminiscent of NGRT. Wow. I was worried it might be overpowering or one-dimensional, but the dusky brown, quite cloudy pour seemed at odds with the aroma. A bit of oak emerges quickly, and the beer drinks quite nicely. Ultimately I found it to be quite close to an oud bruin, nicely earthy.

Thanks to Paul for this one. Hazy brown body with a beige head. Aroma is sweet and tar raspberries, yogurt, and sugary candy. Flavors of mint, raspberry, lightly tart, and some mild bretty funk.

THOUGHTS: An incredible beer, but not as sour as I was expecting. This should be even better with some aging, but at around $18 a bottle I don’t know if I’ll be willing to do so. The alcohol is a little too present in this young bottle, but not as strong as I’d expected from the ABV. Not much funk either. Much easier to drink fresh than Dogfish Head Fort though. TECHNICAL: Bottle. Poured a dark, brownish red with an average, off-white (in the form of pinkish-purple) head that mostly diminished and left good to fair lacing. The aroma was Raspberry, cask wood, alcohol and then more sour raspberry as it warmed. The initial flavor was light to moderately sweet and moderately acidic; while the finish was moderate to heavily sweet, moderately acidic and sour with a long duration. There was raspberry then sour raspberry with some alcohol and wood. The medium to full body was a little syrupy but dry in back with fizzy carbonation and a moderate astringent and light to moderate alcoholic finish.
