Rating #4300... Bottle... SMAACMSM O-Town Throwdown, Part Sept... Clear copper ale with a large, frothy, white head. Incredible retention. Metallic, meaty, vinous aroma with a note of toffee. Medium to full-bodied and oily with lively carbonation. A touch metallic, meaty and sweet. Lingering, lightly bitter, mostly sweet finish. Big THANKS to johnykat for shipping these bottles down from PA!

Courtesy hopscotch. Pours a clear, amber maroon, with a small off white head. The smell is of big sweet malts, and alot of dark fruit. Apples and plums mostly, as I seemingly get in most scotch ales I try. The flavor is much the same, with the fruits being the most prominent, and gives it a nice crisp bitterness in the finish. It was a touch maybe overcarbonated wihich was a flaw, but overall not bad.

A- Pours a deep reddish brown with a small fizzy head that dissipates rather quickly. S- Smells sweet, yeasty, with hints of lighter fruitiness. T- Taste is much darker than expected, almost dubbelesque with strong tones of dark fruit throughout the middle, a hop bitterness at the end but with a bit of a weak beginning. M- Thick and a bit too carbonated for my taste. D- In my opinion this is a good brew that misses the mark a little. I like it but I couldn’t session it and it just seems like it doesn’t come together cohesively enough.

2/29/07 - 12 oz. bottle split with Naka. Pours red/caramel w/ minimal head, none exactly. Nose is an odd caramel w/ some fruity esters, pear and peach. Taste is pretty much the same, a thin, watery caramel taste w/ a touch of fruit, apple, raisin. Some bitter on the back of the tongue. A bit too fruity for a wee heavy, but decent. Very Belgian-esque. Some alcohol warmth.

12oz courtesy of Juart. Pours red with an amber hue. Malty nose with some vanilla, peach, and brown sugar. Flavor doesn’t hit you right away. A decent malt sweetness of toffee, fruit, with a subtle bitter note. A really dry finish. Taste is almost like a dubbel. A very light carbonation, and not really much body at all.
