Commercial Description:
Slam Dunkel was a small batch release in 2007. We had such an overwhelming response that we had to put it in the seasonal rotation. We also decided, as brewers, we couldn’t live without drinking this beer every year! This 7% Double Dunkelweizen is unfiltered and made with over 50% wheat malt along with pale, munich, and a touch of chocolate to give it the traditional color and flavor. Bitterness is subdued to allow the Weihenstephen yeast to shine through with those traditional notes of banana and clove. Available in June in bottles and draft. Recipe by Chris Wilson, Head Brewer.

2008-10-22. Murky brown body with a small tan head. (3+) Sweet floral-estery aroma, sort of perfumey at times, odd sweet character I can not place. Light phenols? Butter touches? (6+) Flavour is quite fruity up front, lots of interesting esters, sweet, banana or plantain notes. Touches of chocolate or Ovaltine. Smooth average plus palate. Nice beer but some of the estery notes do not always play well with each other. Bottle shared by Blankboy

From 12oz bottle. Poured cloudy brown. Thick tan head. Aroma sweet and malty. Kind of like banana cream, vanilla, and malts. Flavor of caramel. Earthy. Malty. Light hints of chocolate. Banana and sugar in the flavor at the end of my tongue. Medium body. Very carbonated and astringent. Bitter and dry.

Bottle (22oz). Shared by blankboy with me garthicus, jerc and mabel. Murky reddish-brown, average creamy tan head. Odd aroma - initially slightly boozy and choco-banana, as it warms it gets herbal and strangely rubbery. The taste is simple sweet herbal caramel malt, not as rubbery - decent, moderate alcohol. Astringent, pungent, somewhat alcoholic, weird aftertaste - I liked it, but odd.

Pours a dark and hazy caramel brown cola color, glowing crimson red when backlit. A uniform, foamy, khaki colored head displays good retention, and leaves sudsy spots of lacing on the glass. Aromas include cola-like malt sweetness, figs, vanilla and raisons, with a hint of earthy hop spice. Flavors follow suit, with sweet dark raisons, caramel , and smoky molasses leading the charge. A touch of lactic cream smooths things out, while peppery spices add a bit of balance. I didn’t get any banana at all. Medium-plus bodied and balanced on the tongue, an up front creaminess transitions into an overly sweet finish. It’s a nice brew, but ultimately it’s too sweet and lacking in a few other areas.

Pours cloudy with a medium/dark brown body under a lasting tan head. Chocolate covered banana aroma reminiscent of a "Charleston Chew" Very creamy smooth and rich palate that delivers a creamy chocolate flavor with loads of banana. I’ll take another of these!

Pours cloudy brownish color with off white head. Aromas of wheat, clove and bananas. Similar flavors with some caramel also. Medium body with mild carbonation.

Bottle: Muddy brown, light head and no lacing. Nose of banana bread and starchy banana chips. The flavor is a little dull with more esters, light bitterness and a full flabby banana tail. Finishes unbalanced, strong esters, light chewy malts but flat.

Pours dark brown. Initially got some sourness, an then straight out sweetness. Above average mouthfeel, and good drinkability.
