elektrikjester (7), Marietta, Georgia, USA does not count Sep 26, 2008 Beer smells malty, with some fruit and spice. An overriding sourness in the aroma, though. Pours a dark brown, with off-white, one finger head. Head settles down, but remains until the end, with minimal lacing. Beer is a dark, murky brown overall. In dimpled glass, however, a dark amber out toward edges. Flavor is nice, with a strong banana and malt flavor up front. Some clove is definitely discernible, too--it results in a slight numbness. When served cool or cold, there is a slight sour aftertaste. As beer warms to room temperature, it becomes much smoother. Palate is quite pleasant, with very slight carbonation enhancing the flavor.
A nice dunkel weizen; pretty much everything they should be. While I’ve had better, this is a respectable beer. emacgee (1859), Chapel Hill, North Carolina, USA Sep 26, 2008 A pretty good weizen bock. Pours a murky brown with a two finger creamy head. The aroma had some banana, clove, sweet, wheaty, sour. The flavor is similar, nice malty, banana, clove, kind of sweet. Brigadier (1220), Chagrin Falls, Ohio, USA Sep 25, 2008 22 oz bottle
With Weyerbacher being so hit or miss in the past I don’t know why I gave them a second chance. Perhaps I secretly know that they couldn’t unbalance a weizenbock that badly. In fact they’ve done quite a good job. This is not so over the top that it reeks of alcohol but it doesn’t go down mildly either. I may have to reconsider my position on them.
Aroma / Appearance - A huge two finger white head gushed from the bottle before mellowing into a deep brownish red body. If there was any carbonation it was well hidden by the darkness of the liquid within. The smell of fresh hot banana bread made me want to bake a loaf. Also present were chocolate chips, cherry pie filling and wheat. The fruitiness was almost enough to make me think it was aiming to be an imperial hefeweizen.
Flavor / Palate - Chewy banana bread fills the mouth from the start. Thick with chocolate chips it is very drinkable at 7%. With low expectations I was surprised to find a beer actually worth the $5.99 price sticker. I might give them another shot with the imperial stouts now. bhensonb (4187), Woodland, California, USA Sep 24, 2008 Dark, reddish tinged, amber color with a decent beige/tan head. Aromas of banana and roasted caramel, with a possible hint of chocolate. Medium body with fizzy/creamy carbonation. Flavor is banana, dark malt, and a very light chocolate. Makes me think of chocolate covered frozen banana - except the temperature, and there’s not much chocolate here. Finish is good, and the banana turns a bit like the strings on bananas. Finally discovering some clove. Really tasty hefe. carl4beer (394), Fairfax Station, Virginia, USA Sep 24, 2008 22oz. pours brown with thin head. aroma is fig and yeast. mouthful is dark fruits and some spicy yeast. a little dough comes through and some ripe banana. nice for the style. BuckeyeBoy (1645), Boise, Idaho, USA Sep 23, 2008 Bottle Pours out a mudy brown topped with a sand head. Aroma of sweet pit fruit and gelg yeast. Tast a nice spice, plenty banana and more of the pit fruit. A nice brew. Firemoose15 (540), Bethlehem, Pennsylvania, USA Sep 23, 2008 Bottle 12oz. Aroma of caramel malt and grassy wheat. Poured brown with an off white thin cap. Flavor was toasty caramel malt a hint of chocolate and light fruitiness. Palate was enjoyable medium thickness. Overall, this was pretty tasty. cheapdark (2011), Monacatootha, Pennsylvania, USA Sep 23, 2008 Nice blue label. Big swirling pour starts out clearish brown then enter the swirling junk with chunks. If you know weyer, you know this will not be lacking in impact, and it doesn’t. Clean olfactory with hints of dragster fuel vapors. Strong on the tongue. Wheaty wheat wine beer impressions. Finsih is quite strongish and does not hide the alky well. Dizzy swishy senses after a while near end of session..... Somebody should have sent this to courtesy training school before it was released into the public. You’ll love it, quite powerful.
