Commercial Description:
Slam Dunkel was a small batch release in 2007. We had such an overwhelming response that we had to put it in the seasonal rotation. We also decided, as brewers, we couldn't live without drinking this beer every year! This 7% Double Dunkelweizen is unfiltered and made with over 50% wheat malt along with pale, munich, and a touch of chocolate to give it the traditional color and flavor. Bitterness is subdued to allow the Weihenstephen yeast to shine through with those traditional notes of banana and clove. Available in June in bottles and draft. Recipe by Chris Wilson, Head Brewer.

22 oz bottle courtesy of phillybeer2112. Pour is a nice cascading murky brown ruby with a well formed light tan head. Aroma of roasty caramel maltiness. Some soft milkiness below that. Nice nose. Taste is the nose, notably the roasty toasty caramel. Taste also introduces bittersweet fruit, apple is the closest. Some herbal and tobacco at the back of the taste as well. Palate is unfiltered, medium and satisfying. Decent level of carbonation. Nice beer, thanks for sending this my way, Dan!

Bottle from nimbleprop - Thanks! Muddy brown color reminds me of leather. Small, short lived tan head. Bubble gum and bananas dominate an otherwise spicey and fruity aroma. Tastes spices and malty with dark fruits. Less prevalent on the bananas now, more like a banana bread feel. Good.

22 oz bottle. Pours a murky copper color with a light-tan head. Aroma of bread dough, caramel malt, bananas, and yeast. Taste of roasted malt, wheat and spices. Nicely balanced flavor with a crisp finish.

bottle from beachbum25... pours nearly opaque and more than hazy a walnut stained woody brown with a small beige head. smells very fruity and floral... red table grapes, raisins, grass/hay, yeast, light smokiness and at times bubble gum. the flavor reminds me of sliced bananas sitting in lemon water so they don’t change color... also, raw turbinado sugar, chocolate, a weird candy/bubble gum-esque, very pale malt with a mildly bitter herbal/grassy finish. dry lemony aftertaste. medium body with low carbonation which appears quite creamy and soft. nice and surprisingly dry given the aroma.

Dark hazy brown with a tall khaki head. Lots of banana and spice to the nose, lots of yeastiness in the nose, like sniffing a fermenter. Higher carbonation helps to keep the palate from feeling to heavy with the sweetness,

Dark brown pour, nice pillowy head and lacing. Sweet aroma of banana wheat bread. The flavor was roasty, bananas, a good deal of cloves and wheaty yeastiness. Rich and full and the alcohol flavor complimented this well. I was really liking this. Another good one from Weyerbacher...a brewer who gets not enough love.

(Rating #1941)

Bottle at beer exchange. Color of dirty, reddish brown; not much head. Aroma of caramel, cola, yeast and wheat. Flavor of a nice brown sugar and caramel. Some sugar, cola and vanilla to. Good stuff.
