Commercial Description:
Slam Dunkel was a small batch release in 2007. We had such an overwhelming response that we had to put it in the seasonal rotation. We also decided, as brewers, we couldn't live without drinking this beer every year! This 7% Double Dunkelweizen is unfiltered and made with over 50% wheat malt along with pale, munich, and a touch of chocolate to give it the traditional color and flavor. Bitterness is subdued to allow the Weihenstephen yeast to shine through with those traditional notes of banana and clove. Available in June in bottles and draft. Recipe by Chris Wilson, Head Brewer.

Pours a deep opaque brown color with a 2 finger off-white fizzy head that leaves some rimming. Aroma of strong artificial banana, cotton candy, and even a little bit of a sesame note. The flavor is very roasty with some slight fruity esters, clove, and a hint of bitterness. A little yeasty as well. There is some almost savory flavor to it. The tight carbonation in it gives the beer an extremely creamy texture.

Toasty, peanut butter and banana aroma, which was unusual but very enjoyable. Decent label on the bomber. Foggy, walnut stain brown brew with a seafoam head. Cereal and nuts flavor on top of light cocoa. Lightly bittered, nutty sweetness. I really didn’t think that I was going to enjoy this all that much - it’s certainly not in my top 10 fave styles, but it’s really a tribute to craft brewing. Kudos to Weyerbacher. Deftly and artistically done.

12 oz bottle. Malty. A True Weizen Bock. Slight banana tones. Thin Head. Malt overpowers hops as should be for this style. A thoroughly enjoyable beer. I will definitely buy this again!

22oz bottle courtesy Durhambeer. Pours blackish red with a thin white head. Not much aroma cold, but warming up give some roasted grains, vanilla, and caramel. Smooth sweet malt taste with hints of vanilla. Very nice easy drinking dunkel.

Bottle from Daniel. Pours out a dark color with a tan head on it. Smell is fruity and roasted with some coffee flavors. Tastes like a dunkel to me, but I no! It is a weizen bock! The God’s have spoken. Someone should pass the message to ’Chris Wilson, Head Brewer’ that his dunkel is a weizen bock. Taste is sweet and rich, full flavored with a nice malty caramel taste. Alcohol is well hidden and the sweetness is not over powering. Nice copy of the name from Natty Greene’s as well. ;)

22 oz bottle. Pours a brown color with a medium, lasting head. Aroma is banana, malt, yeast, cloves. Flavor is malty, with banana, spice, and bread. Overall it was good, but it was not as freshing as I probably was hoping - so that colored my review slightly.
