BlackDonald (1127), Boise, Idaho, USA Aug 13, 2008 Pours a murky light brown. Small off white ring of foam fades nicely into almost nothing. Tangy spice aroma, of nutmeg, cloves and a hint of banana bread. Sweet kind of a nutty malt characeteristic, with a hint of nutmeg and fruitcake. Earthy and dry, but definitely on the bigger side. A full-bodied pleasure to drink. Smooth and well layered. dkachur (2316), Charlottesville, Virginia, USA Aug 13, 2008 22 oz. bottle from Once Upon a Vine. Reddish brown with a 2-finger head. Low retention and lacing. Very banana-forward aroma with some bread, yeast and spice notes. Very earthy taste was unexpected given the aroma. Banana, clove, caramel notes as well. Full bodied. Nice beer. nuplastikk (1159), Madison, Wisconsin, USA Aug 11, 2008 22oz bomber bottle. Thick brown-red stained glass color, with just a tinge of light creeping through. Nice chocolate banana aroma. Everything really comes together well in this beer, from the smooth, rich malt base, to the classic banana-clove aroma. Impressive beer, though a good German example may still have it beat in depth. BeerandBlues2 (3201), Colorado Springs, Colorado, USA Aug 11, 2008 22-oz bottle received via trade with yobdoog; thanks Trevor. Pours hazy brown with an average, frothy, light brown head, somewhat lasting with fair lacing. Aroma is heavy malt (cookie, caramel, nutty), light hops (herbs), average yeast (leather, leaves) with notes of dates and toffee. Medium bodied, slick texture, average carbonation, and a chalky finish. Average duration, light sweetness, acidity, and bitterness. jgb9348 (2492), Arlington (Pentagon City), Virginia, USA Aug 11, 2008 Deep dark brown coloured body with a hazy brown finish and a light tan head. Aroma of strong wheat, curacao, coriander seed and a good set of bananas. Medium to Full-bodied; Strong meaty malt backbone with a good fresh coriander seed flavour with sugar, fruit and some hops coming through as well. Aftertaste shows a lot of character - malt shows through big time with alcohol and some fruit as well. Overall, a nice and strong beer - definitely worth trying! I sampled this 65 cL bottle purchased from Norm’s in Vienna, Virginia on my 27th birthday: 30-June-2008, sampled after my first round of golf ever, 07-August-2008. Cybercat (778), Georgia, USA Aug 10, 2008 This pours a rich, opaque, cloudy wood-brown with a fine-bubbled beige head. Aroma is rich and wheaty, with a strong hint of lemon even without the obligatory lemon wedge. Flavor is rich, wheaty and yeasty, with a little malt and a "rubbery" undertone. Mouthfeel is thick and smooth. This is unlike any beer I have ever had before. EithCubes (2140), Indiana, USA Aug 10, 2008 Bomber, and using proper glassware this time (and Ayinger Weizenglas). Dirty, dusty, familiar yeast with some muddy chocolate and citrus, light clove. Near-opaque, very dark brown pour with substantial slow-moving carbonation and a ludicrously creamy tanned head. Very crisp, very dry taste, light bitterness in with bubblegum and a bit of earth, flavor is less muddled than in other examples of the style but there’s no "wow factor". Dryness keeps it very drinkable, and the alcohol is reasonably well hidden, but the satisfaction is just not here. Chewy body is fullish, aftertaste is yeastily dry and spicy ala Duvel and Weihenstephaner. Classy and really well crafted (I’d like to see the style drift in this direction), but in the end, good DW and nothing more. Funknmilla (577), Phoenixville, Pennsylvania, USA Aug 10, 2008 Bomber....pours brown with a thick creamy beige head...on the whiff, wheat, spices, and a real distinct banana...tastes almost exactly as it smells...sweet and spicy, quite nicey
