PhillyBeer2112 (2084), Orange Park, Florida, USA Aug 3, 2008 I’m very impressed and pleased with this! A nice reddish brown cloudy color, huge foaming head. Aroma is rich and refreshing, alot of spicy zesty wheatiness, and a touch of clove and banana. Flavor is light and refreshing, with zesty minty wheat and again just touch of clove and banana. Finish is light and easy. On the whole the beer is semi-dry, except for a nice melanoidin presence in the middle of this beer, which is quickly carried off with lots of carbonation. Just a 100% spot on dunkelweizen. matt7215 (942), Cambridge, Ontario, Canada Aug 1, 2008 12 oz bottle from a trade with Linus Stick. pours deep hazy brown with minimal head. aromas are dark weizen in nature and very similar to aventinus but not quite as big. flavour: are a lot of red berries with the banana/clove dark wheat + yeast. a little muddled but still very good. thanks for the bottle linus! aracauna (2357), Georgia, USA Aug 1, 2008 Dark brown and ok head. I’d expect a little more from a wheat beer. There’s a slightly phenolic aroma that doesn’t come across as pleasant cloves. I’m not saying it’s bad, I’m just saying that it falls short of what I had hoped. ChainGangGuy (2523), Kennesaw, Georgia, USA Jul 31, 2008 Updated: Aug 24, 2008Appearance: Pours a cloudy, chestnut brown body with an inch of off-white foam.
Smell: Strong dark wheat nose with huge notes of bananas, spice, grape-flavored bubblegum, and booze.
Taste: Blast of grape-flavored bubblegum right at the beginning and while you’re reeling from it, you may miss flavors of dark, bready wheat malt, bananas, spice, and bittersweet chocolate. Bready, tangy-sweet finish.
Mouthfeel: Medium-bodied. Medium carbonation. Chewy mouthfeel.
Drinkability: Creamy, chewy and packed with flavor. An acceptable dunkelweizen from Weyerbacher. RagallachMC (631), Cleveland, Ohio, USA Jul 29, 2008 22oz bottle. Aroma: graham crackers, banana, caramel, clove. Appearance: Rusty brown in color and cloudy. Ivory head was full and creamy with great retention. Good lacing. Flavor: Sweet caramel maltiness upfront with notes of ’Nilla Wafer, clove, and banana. A light chocolate note as it warms. Some noticeable alcohol flavors. A fairly dry finish. Palate: Medium-ful bodied. Medium carbonation. Light alcohol warmth in back of mouth. Overall: A decent Dunkelweizen. Nice flavors and an easy drinker. Alcohol flavor seemed a bit high for a 7% beer. hoooraybeer (48), Cranford, New Jersey, USA Jul 29, 2008 Poured thin tan head and clidy dark amber/brown. Aroma is bready banana and cola with a faint sour note. The sourness comes through more in the flavor wirh a little more of the cola sweetness and a little pepper to balance it our. There are some grape and banana flavors In there that quickly relent to the tangle of bitter and sour that finishes. The sour overpowers but it’s still very enjoyable. I wish I had another 22. Kinz (2179), Glen Allen, Virginia, USA Jul 29, 2008 Medium towards dark hazy brown, long lasting, rather creamy head. Attractive. Aroma is really nice, caramel, clove, banana, faint hint of chocolate. Touch boozy. Flavor is again caramel, clove, and banana. A bit of almost peppery spice blends with some alcohol notes at the end. A big dunkelweizen, and there is nothing wrong with that. A bit of cocoa powder and wheat in the flavor as well. A lot going on here. Really enjoyed this one. urraca (44), New Jersey, USA Jul 28, 2008 22oz bomber. Very dark brown, with a tint of red along the edges. Heavy accents on bananas and malt on the bouquet, with perhaps a hint of cocoa. Flavor consists of a spicy chocolate, with hints of banana, clove, and wheaty yeasts. Overall, very smooth. Would drink again.
