Commercial Description:
Slam Dunkel was a small batch release in 2007. We had such an overwhelming response that we had to put it in the seasonal rotation. We also decided, as brewers, we couldn't live without drinking this beer every year! This 7% Double Dunkelweizen is unfiltered and made with over 50% wheat malt along with pale, munich, and a touch of chocolate to give it the traditional color and flavor. Bitterness is subdued to allow the Weihenstephen yeast to shine through with those traditional notes of banana and clove. Available in June in bottles and draft. Recipe by Chris Wilson, Head Brewer.

Pretty good, but didn’t blow me away or anything. I guess I expect bizarre things out of Weyerbacher. Good enough, though.

22oz bomber. The beer pours cloudy and brown/orange in color with a thick, short-lived, tan head. The aroma features dark-toasted bread, some spicy phenols (definitely more pepper than clove), and a wonderful mix of chocolate, caramel, and toffee. The flavor has subtle fruit - banana with a light touch of citrus. There is also a taste of wheat in there, but it is not that upfront (especially for a dunkelweizen). There is a very big flavor of toffee - and chocolate-covered caramels. At mid-tongue the beer gets a little spicier. The finish is full with spice, alcohol, and rich malts. The mouthfeel is very full - almost chewy. The carbonation is very strong and accents the spicy phenols. Overall, a great beer - very rich in malt character and very drinkable despite the warm weather and big, full body.
